In the world of REALTY, there IS no such "war"

On the road, the same laws apply for automobiles, bicycles, motorbikes, Mister Whippy vans - and horse drawn carts.

The REAL issue here, is should the fossil fuelled deplorables have a list of exemptions to the law - and ONLY THEM.

It's NOT gonna happen, no matter HOW many "me, me, me" petitions and protest rallies they try and get off the ground.

... and it's NOT gonna happen, as a two abreast (maximum 1.7 metres apart, being the width of one car) law for cyclists ALREADY exists

Quote:
Riding with other riders
A cyclist can ride next to another cyclist (this is called ‘riding two abreast) on the road with the following rules:

Bike riders can go side by side
On single-lane roads, cyclists can’t ride beside more than one other cyclist (unless overtaking).

On multi-lane roads without a bike lane, cyclists cannot ride more than two abreast in each marked lane (unless overtaking).

When travelling two abreast, cyclists shouldn’t be more than 1.5 metres apart.

Tip for cyclists: when riding two abreast, consider other road users and if necessary, change to single file to help drivers overtake safely.

Tip for drivers: only overtake when it is safe and legal to do so. After overtaking, make sure you’re well clear of the cyclists before moving back.

Maybe the anonymous eunuch who started the petition, with no research to
scrap one law and replace it with one
- for all intent and purpose
- is the SAME

Maybe the anonymous eunuch who started the petition could have come clean with his real name,
instead of calling himself  “We, the undersigned concerned citizens of Australia"

WHAT "undersigned concerned citizens of Australia" ?

There's not a name or signature to be found.

It is also notable that this struggling,
still active "petition - which came to life over six years ago
- is still thousands short of its humble target

...

Shaving Gel out the passenger window squirted at cyclists is fun. You should do it. It gets in their ears.

Motorists demand fair and clean shot at them ....

I have never forgotten that thug who was protesting about 'our right to use the roads' by blocking a toll booth along with a heap of mates (bullying crowds - you see them more and more these days - cowards in reality) and going at some quiet Asian bloke sitting in his car, the thug using his bike tyre pump as a weapon to threaten this innocent driver.  All on national TV and not a charge....

That did it for me - these Entitled™ Thugs can just go take a jump and use the roads properly or get off.

Roll 'em, roll 'em, roll 'em..
Keep them riders rollin'
Raw Hide
Through bumper bars and bull bars
And open doors that leave scars,
Leavin' their skin bits right behind...
Raw Hide's bloody painful
So make 'em leave a drain full
Soon they'll be wrapped up tight and white
Through tar cement and gravel
Their arrogance will unravel ....
Raw Hide!!  Y-AAAH!

We want a fair crack at them, same as they get at us.... YEAH!! Now get over to the side of the road and take that goddamned Lycra with you.... doesn't it give you crotch rot?

Wrong!  Cyclists take the safest, smoothest, fastest roadway available depending on circumstances.  Before he opens his mouth, that bloke needs to ride the same roads where he is complaining about cyclists commuting with other vehicles, and with the same intentions as other vehicles: to get somewhere smoothly.

He needs to do this for a year at least, on a bike, through the days, and try out the bike lanes and shared paths compared to the roads, and see how cumbersome in design as well as the often rougher surfaces, and then he might understand why sometimes it is okay to take a bike path and sometimes it is wiser to take the road.

Cyclists still pay the rego on their cars even when we leave them at home and ride our bikes, you know?  Don't be so jolly stingy about it!
It's un-Australian.

An irrelevance.

If they own 2 or more cars they pay rego on them as well.

That has nothing to do with them riding a push bike on the road when they choose.

How does that work for those that don't own cars or have drivers licenses?

Buggar - they pay REGO on their CARS?  Would you prefer to apply for the discount, sir?

WTF relevance has their paying rego on their cars same as everyone else got to do with it?  They should be paying an extra tax for hazard on the roads, obstructing traffic, extra cost in building special lanes, and costs on the hospital etc system.

User pays, no?

"Cyclists take the safest, smoothest, fastest roadway available depending on circumstances."

Clearly your reading skills are not up to par.  come up here at Christmas holidays and let's see you in action  on the road just wide enough for two cars.

I often wonder if that bloke who sat at dead slow and pedaled his bike in that left lane over the Iron Cove Bridge during peak hours ended up dying of lung cancer???  Imagine sucking in all that while pumping them legs.... one 'o' them skinny blokes with mad eyes... you know ...

It’s my experience that tradies are the least tolerant on the road.

Obviously digging holes and carrying heavy stuff is leaving them miserable in life?

A "colony" is what you call them? Sound like misplaced Mennonites unless, of course they want to sell you a lot of overpriced furniture and rotting food crap. Then the are truly Amish and Amish people are truly assholes.

Sydney drivers get all agitated being held up by bikes for 20 seconds because it cuts into the time they'll enjoy waiting at the next set of lights.

I did delivery driving in my late teens. I recall that a 3 hour shift would log about 90km on a good shift. So, back and forth, my average speed would be 30km/h. I could imagine that would be the average speed a cyclist would do along the roads for 5 to 10kms. Cyclists take up very little space. Whatever inconveniences some of them might cause would be little consequence compared to those that drive cars. I could be stuck behind a set of cars that impede my journey. I could imagine that a cyclist deciding to drive instead would add to the line of traffic.

By the way, when you consider the cost of fuel these days, having cyclists reduce the fuel demand just helps keep fuel costs down. Appreciate the effort that cyclists have in reducing traffic congestion and fuel costs.

It's un-Australian.

Not all cyclists own a car.

Get 'em off the road - they're a menace.

You have an interesting attitude and taste for shadenfreude.  Not all car drivers pay rego, touche'.  You could use a ticket to Copenhagen, to see how 46% of a city commutes by bike.

Are you disabled?  That might explain your opinion but not your attitude.

I don't live in Copenhagen (was very close last week, though) - I live in Perth, Western Australia.

In Perth, Western Australia, the majority of adult bike riders are rude pricks who disobey the law every five minutes, and abuse law-abiding motorists for no reason at all.

Get 'em off the roads (and footpaths).

Perth has seen a remarkable improvement in driver attitudes this year since the less lethal passing laws have started to become common knowledge.  Commuting has become quite a comfortable experience again after the last decade of road-rage.

When it comes to the shared paths, if the cyclists are in good moods because of the good moods of the car drivers, it makes us treat the pedestrians more gently, and before you know it, everyone is happy again!

You shouldn't be so negative about the better parts of future.

Perth has seen a remarkable decline in cyclists' attitudes.

Isn;'t that a anecdotal subjective measure. And even if it is true, have you thought it may well be because they are sick of being treated like poo by drivers?

From my observations (mainly in the CBD and surrounding areas), the cyclists are the ones treating everyone else like poo.

Every single day I see them break the law, abuse pedestrians, and intimidate drivers.

And, they're just getting worse.

Yep...... and the same can be said for all the idiots using e-scooters ..in fact they're even worse.....

whether it be on their own e-scooter or the hire ones all these idiot town and city councils have allowed to proliferate  ....

rude, ignorant, disobeying all applicable regulations like no doubling, speed limits, wearing helmets, driving like human missiles on city streets and CBD footpaths.

Absolute menaces.

Another thing that is annoyingly dangerous is that habit of children, teens and adults riding their e-scooters or pushbikes against the traffic on the wrong side of the road...

like pedestrians do where there are no footpaths.

I, for one, am happy to share the road with cyclists

However, I believe cyclists should be identifiable.

Number plates should be fitted to every bike ridden on the road, to assist in reporting those who break the law, intimidate drivers, damage vehicles or otherwise create a menace.

Those cyclists who argue against such measures have something to hide

Why do you want to hide your identity?

What are you doing wrong that you do not want your identity known?

How do you suggest I affix it so it can be seen from the rear, without causing a huge amount of drag?

Grin Surely you jest???

Just like your red flashing rear light ... a small number plate won't cause drag effects to worry you.

Your not road racing or stadium racing, where it wouldn't be required?????

BTW - the argument put forward that double riding is better than single file for motorists to overtake is totally absurd... it's frankly scary when you've got two clowns riding side by side and chatting away and not paying attention.. only need to wander a bit and bang....

On dual-carriageways or on single-lane roads, and if the latter then what width of road, and how much traffic is passing in either direction?

If it is a dual-carriageway, then you merge to the right lane and leave the vehicle you are passing the entire left lane, technically.

Our 'dual carriage' has a bike or safety lane - wide enough for a car - there should be no need to pull over into the other lane to pass a bike.... are they supposed to be on freeways?

Here's Peccary's biker attitude in Perth for you:-

Yes they are allowed to be on freeways,

Not in QLD..... and I doubt they are allowed in Victoria.
