One Day Series!
Feb 12th, 2012 at 11:50pm

Great game tonight and a well deserved win to India without Tendulkar.....This series is shaping up to be more even than the Test series.....Anyone care to tip a winner....I still favor the Aussies to win the series???

Ponting Captain while Clarke recovers from a hamstring strain.....Why???

Australia cannot be worried about missing the final and I see no reason why Warner should not have got the nod or even recall Haddin who has proven he is a very good player......What benefit is there in appointing Ponting as Captain???

The benefit comes from the smarts he has acquired capataining the australian teams over the last ~15 years.  Clarke played under Pontings captaincy for close to a decade before becoming captain, it wouldn't hurt Warner to learn a bit more before being thrown in the deep end.  A few years ago he was a club cricket nobody.

Can't see any reason to even suggest recalling Haddin.  What you got against Punter?

I like Punter and will always consider him one of Australia's greatest players....but Ponting is a crap captain IMO who has had his day at the top....It is time to blood the youth and think of the future....Perhaps Haddin has had his day however I think his hunger deserves another chance!!!

He lost the Ashes 3 times when he had the team to win......IMO that is the measure of a good captain.....Winning the big games that count.....Perhaps I was a bit harsh considering his longevity however Border and Taylor where better captains IMO!!!

Well he lost once with the team to win and twice we were simply down particularly on the bowling attack. the future problem is in the batting ranks but with hope their are some good young batsmen around who might just make the difference.

Ponting is the logical choice. There is no young player that makes any sense just yet and why use Hussey, he has not done well. Punter is more likely to maintain what Clarke is trying to achieve and there appears to be ongoing good will between them so he will do the job well.

India will continue to do well in the one day game but the method of pulling it out with a couple of big overs at the end is dangerous when the big games come at the end. Australia to win with the home advantage.

He will play test cricket as long as his form is OK.

As for the argument about the captain of the 1 day side, as it was just a fill in, I would have let D or M Hussey do the job for a while.

But he had to go. There are just too many young blokes waiting for a chance.

In 18 month we have 2 x 5 tests series back to back with the Poms. Time to look forward. So I would not include Punter or Huss in the mix for those series.
