Add the existence of Melbourne’s African gangs and Sydney’s Middle-Eastern crime families and there’s no doubt multiculturalism is a failed policy. It’s not just Senator Pauline Hanson, famously dis-endorsed as a Liberal candidate in 1996, who criticises multiculturalism.

There are deep ructions across Europe, as in Britain. All come down to the same thing. The societies in question have decided to take in more people than they could ever absorb or integrate, and have done so at a rate that will ruin these societies financially as well as socially. It’s a little late for the occasional minister to talk about the fabric of the country being under ‘strain’, or the need for greater ‘social cohesion’. These things have been shot for years.

The problem is that every counter to this problem has the same Charybdis. Oppose the migration extremism and even now you will be accused of Hitlerian tendencies. Before us stands the great disaster of the 21st century, but to oppose it is to be accused of repeating the great disaster of the 20th century.

So intent are some people on showing that they are not Hitler-ites that they have decided to push the current era’s problems even further. A decade ago, the Labour MP Rachael Maskell made a startling claim at a ‘refugees welcome’ rally. To an applauding crowd she said that we weren’t taking in enough refugees. ‘Twenty thousand is not enough, 30,000 is not enough,’ she said. ‘We must keep going until we really are at saturation point, because what does it matter if we have to wait another week for a hospital visit, or if our class sizes are slightly bigger, or if our city is slightly fuller? What does it matter if things are slightly more challenging? If we have to pay a little bit more into the system? Surely it is worth it.’

This point of view has been echoed in the sentiments of other MPs from our governing party. The Labour MP Michelle Scrogham (Barrow and Furness) recently branded some of her constituents racist for being opposed to the building of a multi-million-pound mosque in the Lake District. Scrogham seems to work under the delusion that a core British value is building mosques in the Lake District. I don’t remember that one myself.

Other pro-mosque demonstrators included one who said: ‘There are five British values, which include tolerance of other people’s faiths and beliefs. We’re standing up for proper British values.’ Like me, you might have missed the handout which informed us of the five values that we have in Britain. Perhaps the postal service was unusually overwhelmed that day. But this is the order of the moment. Build a mosque in Beatrix Potter country or you’re not British. Overwhelm the country to the point of saturation (and who will identify that point, I wonder?) and just accept ever worsening public services or you are a bigot.

YouGov has called the results ‘extraordinary’, while researcher Matthew Smith noted:

Almost half of Britons (47 per cent) think there are more migrants staying in the UK illegally rather than legally. Crucially, this view is held by 72% of those who want to see mass removals. However, these perceptions appear to be wide of the mark. Estimates of the population of illegal migrants living in the UK range from 120,000 to 1.3 million, with Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf recently putting the figure at 1.2 million. Regardless of which figure from this range is chosen, it does not come close to the number of migrants living in the UK legally, with 2021/2022 census data putting the entire foreign-born population of the UK at 10.7 million.

No juries, no trial, no need to gather evidence, no real witnesses, no investigation, no assumption of your having any rights to free speech or opinion – just one person to be offended by something you say (the ‘victim’), one local authority bureaucrat ready to issue an order, and one judge ready to agree to it.

Three people can put you away, with no due process and no legal rights pertaining to you, because you offended their ideas, identity or politics.

Is there public support for large-scale removals of migrants?

Nearly half of British voters would support a complete shutdown of migration and for the government to embark upon a campaign of mass deportations, a survey from YouGov found.

According to the pollster, 45 per cent of people, a plurality of respondents, expressed support for the idea of “admitting no more new migrants, and requiring large numbers of migrants who came to the UK in recent years to leave.”

The sentiment was most commonly held among supporters of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, which has advocated for a complete freeze on all legal immigration and has vowed to deport all illegal migrants living in the country. In total, 86 per cent of Reform voters said they supported such a measure.

However, demonstrating the breadth of the anger over mass migration, over a quarter of voters who back either the leftist Labour or Liberal Democrat parties also support shutting down immigration and large-scale removals.

Meanwhile, YouGov also found that immigration topped the list of most important issues facing the country, with 56 per cent listing it as their top priority, the highest level recorded by the survey firm since June of 2016, when the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in the Brexit referendum.

While Brexit was pitched to the public as a means of reducing immigration and taking back control of the nation’s borders from Brussels, immigration reforms from the subsequent so-called Conservative government of Boris Johnson opened the floodgates to record levels of migration by creating new, uncapped paths for non-EU migrants to enter the country.
