It's quite a dilemma.

Need to be cashed up to buy shares during the crash but to store up cash now you would need to sell off shares now and / or pull money out of Super, meaning a loss of gains until the crash.  Sad

If only we knew exactly when the crash will hit.  Undecided

My prediction that the All Ordinaries would drop to 2019 levels has come true (There you go freediver) ... 6,959.30 today, closely compared to 6,948.00 25 Nov 2019

According to the google results, in 2019 the ASX200 ranged from 5619 to 6846.

So yeah, that's like predicting it will rain in the next month. You might be right, but not as often as a stopped clock.

There's not a lot of confidence around FD, you'll be lucky if the All Ords doesn't drop to 2018 levels in the coming weeks. Only over-priced stocks and false optimistic government promises will keep it out of the danger zone, for a while

I'm not the one pulling the Nostradamus routine. But here goes:

The market will either go down or up.

The Australian market is a little bit more shielded than the US Market or the UK Market, but it's useful to look at the Dow and the NASDAQ because of the sheer size of the market. Apart from that, the AUD will fall because of the global uncertainty. It always does. So some of our exports will become more competitive.  I agree that Australian Shares will do better in the medium term.  It's possibly as good a place as any to weather the storm, if such a  place even exists. I wouldn't have said that even two years ago.

Inflation is predicted to hit 7.75% by the end of the year.  Contrast that with the UK or the US, where it's already 9.1% and predicted to hit 19%. Not good for house prices.

It will be third quarter 2023 before the volatility settles down.  The Russian/ Ukrainian issue is likely to run out of steam, and the pandemic is already starting to ease, although long Covid will have a continued effect on  the workforce. Already we have 4 million people in Australia absent at any time due to the symptoms of long Covid. It has been affecting supply chains for most of the year.

I predict another disaster (probably floods) this coming summer. I think it's a highly credible risk anyway.

Ha! The question remains :  will it go MORE up or MORE down? And which parts of the share market is more vulnerable to such fluctuations. International? National? Which types of commodities are affected? Note: I personally don't like stocks and shares. It's all too illusory IMO. The real estate market isn't.

Interestingly enough... the real estate investment market itself kinda sorta functions like the stock market in that IF the market goes down one immediately examines exactly where. Regional? Urban? Residential? Commercial? Land? If urban then which urban area? Sydney? Melbourne? Perth? Even at that level of scrutiny one needs to take a closer look at specific LGA regions.

IMO....you'll do better investing in real estate. Just be careful WHERE/HOW you invest ie carefully consider what type of property you buy, where it's located and what type of mortgage you take out.

The stock market is a machine to extract money from people who have no idea, by those who do.

But you want proof?  OK.

If you do have high quality information about what is going to happen, act on it, you can be put in prison.  Knowing what will happen is against the rules.  Imagine knowingly taking part in that!

That means that you are required to throw large sums of money at something that you have no idea about.  Your money can be taken away from you by as little as a bullshit article in today's paper.

Not for me.
