Car drivers dont depend on noise to detect other vehicles, the real issue is motorbike riders speeding and weaving through traffic. Making motorbikes loud is just the "look at me " mentality, nothing to do with safety.

I wasn't talking about making them louder. I was talking about the danger of making them silent.

Lane splitting or filtering is legal in my state. The problem is distracted drivers. They're a menace to everyone on the road, including motorcyclists.

Possibly. I'd never ride a scooter, let alone lane split on one.

Having a loud bike helps a little bit on multi-laned roads and can help to stop cars changing lanes on you, but compared to defensive riding it's nothing.

I had a Ducati with a loud set of Staintunes and if I saw a car looking like they were about to do a silly lane change, I'd give the throttle a blip and they'd have a better look around, but that was more about defensive riding and anticipation than just the noise.

Not sure. Either 2017 or 2018. Fleet vehicle. It was okay, like I said. The only car I've ever found fun to drive is my husband's Peugeot and that's probably because it's an old school manual. In comparison, the hybrid was gutless and bland but it would be a decent commuter.

Exactly. It's not the only weapon against a distracted driver or the most effective but it helps.

Last week I had a Lexus NX300h and it was wonderful. Effortless off the mark acceleration then the petrol kicks in seamlessly. I just picked up a Corolla hybrid for the week. I don't like the driving position or size, but it drives beautifully. Not as good as the Lexus but I could live with it!

I'll take a Rav Hybrid for a test drive soon.

Riding a loud motorbike is a guaranteed way to lose your hearing.

The interior light in a Camry is so weak it is a wonder that it doesn't fall over.

And the hand (foot) brake is messy to use.

And to change one of the fuses you have to remove the glovebox and lie on the floor and reach up with a torch in your mouth.

And if you get out and forget to take the key anyone can jump in and press start and drive away.
