7% of Australian Catholic priests alleged to be involved

An inquiry examining institutional sex abuse in Australia has heard 7% of the nation's Catholic priests allegedly abused children between 1950 and 2010.

In one religious order, over 40% of church figures were accused of abuse.

Over 4,440 people claim to have been victims between 1980 and 2015, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse was told.

The commission, Australia's highest form of inquiry, is also investigating abuse at non-religious organisations.

It has previously heard harrowing testimony from scores of people who suffered abuse at the hands of clergy.

Labor’s campaign to hold the safe state seat of Cabramatta has been thrown into disarray after the local branch president was charged with producing pornography which allegedly exploited children in The Philippines and importing prohibited material into Australia.

Peter Andrew Hansen, 61, who speaks fluent Vietnamese and recently celebrated securing his driver’s licence in that country, was arrested at Sydney International Airport when he returned from Vietnam on October 6.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal details of the case for the first time after an interim suppression order was not continued.

Saw the 4 Corners episode on Pell last night. The bit that got me is that bloke at the beach side dressing rooms, seeing Pell naked in front of 8-10 year old boys. He tells the kids to move on and then confronts Pell and tells him he knows what he is up to, and to never come back.

How Pell could get off this conviction escapes me.

A simple yes or no will suffice.

Moreover, what would the charge be: being naked in a dressing room?

Fair enough.......if he is charged and convicted of any offence arising out of your allegation.

It is not good enough to just toss in as much as you have heard about the Church and abuse, lay it all at the feet of Pell...and then use that scuttlebutt to convict him of an alleged offence the actual proof of which is one man's word against anothers.

Agree. If not guilty directly, he was definitely guilty indirectly by protecting the entire 'Spider' infection in the Church.
The Evil of the Batavia shipwreck was orchestrated by an individual who did not do the murdering 'directly', but did so 'indirectly'. He was hung the highest and firstly by request of those who carried out the murders and were hung after.

Reflecting on that further....how come the Pope (s) are escaping these allegations of involvement? If Pell knew, then so would the Pope.
