Do I?  Nope.  I want the Australian Government to provide Immigration Dept. officers in the Refugee Camps - as they did before Howard pulled them - to allow the Refugees to make application for Asylum overseas.   They can then fly to Australia.   A world of difference to what we presently have, hey, Hammer...

This is happening already, Bwian, we have a refugee intake of 17,500 pa.

From the countries that the Government has selected, Soren.  I want Refugees from the countries where people fear for their lives.   I want Refugees which basically self-select themselves.  Before Howard pulled the Immigration officers from Refugee camps, they were doing a good trade in granting asylum to the people who need it the most.   It worked well.

Why prefer people who self-select over people selected by Australia?
What is the merit of cutting out the Australian say in who comes to Australia? How and why is that something you prefer to Australians deciding who comes here?

I believe the people who are most in need should be given the greatest chance of being granted Refugee status, Soren.   I do not believe we should be choosing Refugees on the basis of their value in your eyes.   You're a Racist and a Xenophobe, Soren.  You don't want any Refugees at all.   Roll Eyes

Refugee status is not the same as resettlement, ya thick, mail-order doktor.

Preen away,  you vain, thick old auntie.

...

Oh, dearie, dearie, me.  I can always tell when you've lost an argument, Soren.  You automatically resort to ad hominem insults.  Tsk, tsk, off you go, back to the little kiddies' playground.    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Why wouldn't they be, a short say on a tropical island with all expenses paid and then a charted jet undercover to OZ provided for by our PM and then into the Hyatt.

Since you haven't given a link I call bullshit.

Quote:
8 February 2008

Six-and-a-half years and close to $300 million later, the Howard government's Pacific Solution has been set adrift.

An airline flight carrying 21 Sri Lankan asylum seekers from Nauru landed in Brisbane on Friday afternoon, effectively marking the end of the controversial policy.

The group, now approved as refugees, have been held on Nauru since March last year and were the last occupants of the detention centre built by Australia in the tiny Pacific island nation.

The Manus Island detention centre has been mothballed since the last asylum seeker left in 2004.

New Immigration Minister Chris Evans welcomed the end of the policy.
"The Pacific solution was a cynical, costly and ultimately unsuccessful exercise introduced on the eve of a federal election (in 2001) by the Howard government," Senator Evans said.
He said the department had spent $289 million between September 2001 and June 2007 to run the Nauru and Manus centres.

https://www.smh.com.au/national/flight-from-nauru-ends-pacific-solution-20080208...

The detention centres were nearly empty when Howard lost the election.

$289 million to run the Pacific solution from 2001-2007, how does that compare to the billions Labor spent?

That is how Australia selects its legal refugee intake and keeps out the fakes and illegals.

We spend hundreds of millions on not having failed states bordering us so we will not be camps for refugees we cannot resettle and cannot return. We do not want any more fakes, cheats, illegals to foist themselves on us.

Except the "short stay" has turned into at least half a decade long on an island which has caused mental illnesses, suicides and deaths.  Nauru is a hell hole.  The Nauruans are violent, ill mannered and hateful people.   Hardly a holiday.   As to staying at the Hyatt, I am unsure on which planet you are dwelling but it definitely isn't the one marked "reality".    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I don't want illegal immigrants. You argue with me because you do want illegals, especially non-Christian, non-English speaking unskilled ones.

We take plenty of legals, refugees and immigrants, we don't need on top of those a load of illegals, chancers and fakers who catch planes to Indonesia ONLY to try to come here illegally.

As has been pointed out, the people you (and the Government) have deemed to be "illegals" are in reality Asylum Seekers who have attempted to exercise their right to claim Asylum on Australian territory.   That they have overwhelming been judged - by the Immigration Department's own processes - to be genuine Refugees appears meaningless to you.   You just don't like it when reality refuses to conform to your fantasies, right, Soren?  Tsk, tsk, how inconvenient, right?    Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

The vast majority of illegal immigrants currently living in Australia came here by plane.

Moreover, some of the worst offenders are from the US and Britain.

In contrast, only a very, very small minority of illegal immigrants have arrived by boat.

This is not a personal opinion - it's a verifiable, indisputable fact.

Well, go on, verify it then, Turd. I am pretty sure you are twisting things around dishonestly, as you always do.

So show us your indisputable facts.

I am pretty sure you are dishonestly conflate visa overstayers and settled illegal  migrants who are living here illegally, in hiding.
