Yes.

If you don't want others unlocking your PC, you need to set a password.

Start - Settings - Accounts - Sign-in Options

Search for UNlock win 10 with the method you used to lock it.

There's no need to search - you just hit any key on the keyboard and the computer will unlock.

I do it to my work computer a dozen times a day.

That depends on the setup.

What's the point of locking it, if it is so easy for anybody to unlock?

Huh

That depends on the setup.

Hitting any key (well, certainly the space bar and 'enter') works on every Windows computer I've ever used, and that's quite literally dozens.

I think Herbie wants to lock his computer, and then be the only one who can unlock it.

For that, he needs to go to the "Require Sign-in" option, and set a password.

Then, when he hits the space bar on the keyboard the PC will wake up, but he'll be confronted with a screen like this:

(Of course, it won't  say Stella Cain)

Okay - thanks Greg.

I go away from home every few weeks for a week or so, and that's when my neighbours come in to feed the cats and chooks, etc. There's absolutely nothing on my PC I'm ashamed of, but even so, what's private should remain private.

How to undo the password access setting is now the second question. It would be annoying if thereafter I have to type-in an 8 figure password each time I sit down at the computer.

Works on mine and it was a default build.

You need to access Accounts under settings while you are logged in as a Administrator and change the account settings.

I just sold an older notebook and I had to clean up the accounts and profile / remove all data etc ....

So it has the default setup. I don't try to interpret what is/has been done.

Just set 'Require sign-in' when you go away, and turn it off again when you get back home.

Simples!

Start - Settings - Accounts - Sign-in Options
