People I guess don't need  fear of an afterlife to make them do the right thing anymore.

You judge that by the utopian, war-free, crime-free, violence free word of 2016?

No I judge that from the violence associated with religious types, ISIS, al-Qaeda, Republican gun nuts.

If that is how you mind chooses to process facts then be my guest. However, it will always lead you confidently and arrogantly to the wrong conclusion.

You mean presenting facts as they actually are?

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

'No religion is the new norm,' says Professor Woodhead, 'and there is every indication that its majority share will continue to grow.'

Good to hear.

Oh, you think the listing of a few facts without context amounts to Truth?

Your world must be a very different place to the one the rest of us live in.

I'm not sure thats right.
i find buddhists and christians far less "fearful" then secular people.
You need a direction in life and you need a "personal philosophy"
It doesnt probably matter in the long run which direction you take, but if you dont take a direction you are well and truly farrked.
And it seems to my observations that many many aetheists would do very well to submit to a "force" greater then themselves.
Their ego's wont like this.
Their ego thinks they will cease to exist if they do.
Paradoxically though, the opposite is true.

If people think they can find peace and happiness in the secular world of "ego", i will wish them good luck. They are going to need it Wink

Since the 70's England has been in a continual decline.
Their society is worse to live in now than then.

Perhaps.

This news, however, shows that there is hope for the future.

Fearful of what exactly, an afterlife? How can I as an atheist be fearful of something I think doesnt exist.

Oh, wait, I'm fearful of unicorns.

I've mentioned this before, so you really have no excuse.

Many Buddhists are also atheist.  Depending on your sect, you being a Buddhist has nothing to do with belief in a god.

Well true, buddhism is more a philosophy.
And you can certainly read the personal philosophy of Jesus and get a lot out of it.
And i dont think there is an afterlife BUT  religion fulfils a very useful role.

If you dont see jesus or the buddha or confuscius or Lao Tzu as very gifted philosophers , you are just closing off some major avenues for personal growth.

And what exactly is the direction of your average englishman going to be.

If they wish to turn their backs on the smartest and most inspired philosophers, where are they going to get direction from?

David cameron Wink
The UN Wink
the BBC  Wink

i wouldnt be writing off religion just yet.

And , whilst it is falling in the UK (which seems to have fallen into some sort of melancholic state) , it is booming in Russia and east asia.
