Porn and education
Jun 25th, 2015 at 1:32am

I'm starting an essay on porn and the effects it has on society, culture (western vs everywhere else), how it directly effects women and men and our relationships with each other; I'll go into how it effects the legal system (rape cases and the like), and discuss prominent anti-porn campaigners in the legal/philosophical sphere (think Catherine MacKinnon). I'll talk about the history of porn, and the internet making it more accessible. I may even go into lesbian porn and how there ain't nothing lesbian about it (no lesbian would acrylic nails, that's just mean) and compare it with gay porn. It's 2500 words minimum so I feel like I have plenty of space to go into this stuff.

I'm not writing about it from a porn-positive perspective (because I really hate porn) but that doesn't mean I'm not open to the other side of the argument -- if anything I'll include some of the positive arguments to round everything out and to give myself something to argue against.

(I'd also like to add before anyone jumps down my throat that I have no problems with porn stars or sex workers or anything else, my issue is with porn as a concept, and how it supplies an unrealistic idea of sex, of human bodies, of consent etc etc. Hate the game, not the player and all that.)

So lay your knowledge on me, peeps! Help a sister out!

Sex is nothing like porn. Porn depicts it as a male centric view, where the pleasure is focused on a man --- most women don't cum from being pounded. It's filmed for the camera, to give the camera the best shot possible so you can see more, real sex is more people mashing their bodies together and being close, and most of the time it's more loving as the people participating caught feelings for each other. Porn is not loving. Porn is fake, clinical, and male centric; the result of this is a generation that has no idea how to have sex properly, and often with a bias and assumption of what will arouse women --- not all women like to be flipped on their heads and pounded with a finger in the butt,  but hey, if porn shows mostly that kinda thing that must be correct, right? ...right?

(there're spaces in there so I could post the link, edit them out and you're good to go!)

How do you have sex "properly"?  Missionary only?

There's abundant information out there to strongly suggest that porn distorts how people see sex, notably young men. Older men cut their teeth when hardcore porn was harder to come by but the ease of accessibility to very, very strong content has blurred the lines for a generation of younger men.

I've listened to young women talk about it.

Those are just a few examples from a very quick search.

Good luck Nifty, i'll have a deeper look later on when i have time but you've certainly picked yourself a weighty topic.

I watched a documentary once that claimed that there was more statistical evidence linking hard-core porn to rape and violence towards women and children than there is to link cigarettes to lung cancer. I will try to find a source for that for you later on too.

An interesting article here, never-mind the religious source, it's academically based:

and here:

There's a great deal of info out there Nifty ... good luck sorting through it all. I've only had a a very brief skim of the links i've posted so i dunno if they are going to be of any help .. but maybe some of the certain detractors to your thread will gain something from seeing you are not alone on your limb.

Good luck!

No woman i know likes missionary only. Why would you even suggest it?

Having sex 'properly' means paying attention to the needs of both participants and treating each other with care and respect.

Did you really need that explained to you?

Umm I kinda already answered that in my initial post? I said that often porn depicts sex as being male cetric. ie, centred around male pleasure and ignoring the woman ... so not having sex properly would be to be  a selfish lover ...  pretty self-explanatory ...

What was it called?  I'm just curious as I have heard the opposite (accessibility to porn lowers sex crime, and banning it increases it)

yes, well most girls love to act like porn stars.  It'd be a stretch to call male porn stars "selfish lovers."  It's not like they just "pound" them and are done in 5 minutes.

heh yeah, the first part of the sentence was true enough, but she lost the plot by the end.

"Oooh baby I respect you so much" won't exactly get their motor running but "who's my dirty little slut?" will.
