As Derryn Hinch used to say in reference to some bastard getting terminated by the police: "It's a vote for a better Australia".

Australia is just that little bit better as a country now that this cling-on that was stuck to the toilet bowl of Life has finally been flushed away.

We're all just that little bit safer and better off than before they done capped his ass.

You don't think that something pretty sad has happened to make an 18 year old think that something like this action is an option in Australia ?

Not for a second.

Every single country has a Islam problem. When they are a small minority (1-2%) they have a victim mentality blaming everyone else for their problems. When they are a large minority (10-20%) they start to force change on society and no longer hide their more vile cultural beliefs. Once they become a majority they force everyone else to either be Muslim or live in fear as second rate citizens. Their entire religion from its very core requires domination and separation from all others.

Australia is a perfect example of how Islam stands out as a group that creates disharmony;

Hinduism: 1.3%
Buddhism: 2.5%
Islam: 2.2%

Can we really say that Islam is no worse that Buddhism in Australia? Can we really say that Hinduism is as bad when we take numbers into account? It is pretty obvious which religion simply stands out as an ongoing problem.

The western world is simply unable to deal with Islam the same way it deals with other beliefs. The idea that all beliefs are equal or equally as bad as each other is political correctness gone wild and a futile attempt to appear neutral and objective. The consistent and violent track record of Islam simply doesn't allow it to be classed as no worse than any other religion.

in today's world, you're probably right that the islamic religion has the greatest of problems. BUt that's not to say that all religion hasn't at one point in time or another being an overreaching reason for why sh!t happens. Not to mention that it just dumbs down people.

Just get rid of it all.

I do wonder if the police have ever had his parents in to discuss his behaviour as he apparently known to them for some time

All that does is reinforce extremists views  and allows them to justify their extreme behaviour to the impressionable.  Can you imagine what it does to your head to be made to feel like a criminal just because of your religion, a religion that most of these kids or young men were born into and had no choice? I accept what you are saying John and do not dispute that you cannot blame institutions for the actions of individuals in every instance which is where I believe you are coming from....However my argument is the Catholic church did know what was going on and covered it up to protect the institution not the victim.....Muslims claim extremism has nothing to do with Islam and blame individuals or external forces without accepting the very institution they are protecting is partly to blame....My argument is if these institutions do not accept any fault on their own behalf either through apathy or ignorance then who should???

Huh Huh Huh

There is a subtle but important difference in your analogy.  The Catholic Church Hierarchy (in part) knew what was going on and covered it up but the vast majority of the church - including its leadership - did not know. Once they did find out their rejection of it and internal change was both swift and genuine. Muslims however, ALL know what is going on and no one is unaware and yet their rejection of radicalisation has not occurred. Even moderate Muslims are pretty quiet and there is little to no attempt to fix the problem from the inside out.  I am not excusing the Catholic Church, but at least they are changing while Muslims appear to have no intention at all to change.

I think moderate Muslims deserve the same benefit you give moderate Christians Longy.....
If religion does not keep its own house in order it is part of the problem not the solution.....My mum is a devout Catholic who is dismayed at the actions of the church as she should be.....When anyone makes excuses for religion they are ignoring the illness and only treating the symptoms!!!

Huh Huh Huh

No, they don't deserve the same benefit.  Child sex abuse took place in secret and in the shadows where it was hidden from people at large.  Terrorism and the radicalisation of youth occurs openly and VERY much so.  How does any muslim claim 'they don't know' about these things?

By the church and by their own admission.....You are an apologist and in denial like most religious zealots!!!

This is an interesting topic.  Go back to the start, read through ALL the responses and see how the dynamics of the thread have changed.
You can tell the blowins easily, but disregarding their minimal input, people are starting to look at the incident and think about it:

Why did this young man undertake this course of action?  What motivated him?  Are similar 'ticking bombs' waiting to happen?  What actions were taken before this to try and understand and perhaps stop this occurring?

Unfortunately, the bloke is dead and can't assist, but once again - reread the thread, discard the blowins and it becomes an interesting exercise in influence and human nature

Longliar trying to re write history again. One just has to reflect for one second on the many many children that were unnecessarily abused by repeat offenders in the catholic church to realise what a travesty that remark is on those many abused children.  LongLiar has absolutely no morals.

so which part of that was in error?  that the church rejected such behaviour and sought to genuinely redress it? Or was it just you reacting rather than responding - a bad habit you get into a lot on here.

Yes, it's sad.

I cried all the way through the documentary on the Nuremberg Trials at the awful misdirection those genocidal monsters took because of the bad potty training they receive from their parents.
