Whenever they go across the pond for a visit there is even more people out on the streets for the visit than over here.Anyway us Australians get them for free, the uk pays for them.In fact the uk gets them for free too if you consider the incredible amount of revenue they generate.
For sure if we want to become a republic then so be it,but "don't cut off your nose to spite your face".It's a freebie for god's sake.

We pay for this visit and we pay them for being here.

And even if its a freebie why would you single them and kowtow to them as some one to be respected?
What you give in one hand you get back twofold in the other. The amount of revenue generated from the visit adequately provides for the cost with profit an top.
I would of thought you would of been more concerned about the coming G20 summit in Brisbane. Now that is one way expenses. Angry

ha ha, get a grip. the rest of the world isnt interested. the americans regard us with derision because of our subservience to the monarchy.

you need to go to to the US and actually speak to people over there. and no, they dont generate revenue. No one comes to australia as a tourist because the royal family are visiting here. Get real.

Prove it (you won't; not with employing the same spin doctors who justify $mil's of public money to the V8's for private profit et al.)

Anyway, the argument is not about promoting tourism or stimulating the economy, its about kowtowing to the product of media hype.

THE ROYALS ARE NOT RELATIVE TO AUSTRALIA. Why should we pay for them to be here? We have better things/people and more relevant to Australia things/people to honour and promote

Good Grief Ian,you're obviously not a businessman are you? Is tourism the only way to generate revenue in your world. So a day out with the family doesn't generate any money to the local shops? No souvenirs to be sold?.Restaurants, hotels, cabs and local businesses all profit from a visit.I expect the easter show down Sydney had a bumper crowd. You are,of course, talking nonsense.

Right, so australian consumers somehow magically come into possession of more spending money. No revenue is generated and more than likely has a negative effect on some businesses because money spent on this will not be spent elsewhere.

Fair enough,if its not a fiscal issue then for sure,I am a convert.I would say that after the Queen has stood down or died then that should be the end of them. Not just for Australia but for the UK too.For the UK to have any chance of survival they need to stop themselves from drowning in their own history. That includes distancing themselves away from the old empire and colony days and tightening their borders as quick as they can.Concentrate on what they have lumbered themselves with and tell Europe to F off.

+1

The Royals don't give money, they just receive it.

They'd have far more money at their disposal as private citizens, but as with politicians in many instances they take a break from their real wealth and commit themselves to the service of the public instead.

At best and benefit is a very localised and temporary benefit and probably not a net benefit to the Sydney, NSW or Aus economies - just changing the winners and losers.

In other words there is no more wealth created when a handful of Pommiephils travel to the Blue Mts and spend money there rather than at Rooty Hills RSL. This is the same type of Witch Doctor economics that all Spin Doctors resort to.

Now building a bridge to move people and goods has a net economic benefit.

Giving Bloggies the dole to buy a loaf of bread has an economics benefit.

But convincing Bloggies to buy ciggies rather than bread for the kids has the same economic benefit (and probably a net loss if you spent additional money to get bloggies to change his mind).

There is no net financial loss to the country from their visit, the money remains here. But what we get from them is boost to our esteem and confidence, something that just can't be bought by money.

So when Rudd gave away all that money to attempt to stimulate the econimy and Labor gleefully announced that it saved Australia from recession it was in fact a load of bollocks?

disruption to normal everyday business is enormous and probably costs us tens of millions. What about  all the police, politicians etc who should be doing their normal jobs. everything stops for the sake of a minority of lick spittles who want to rubberneck at these parasites and wave a union jack.

They are! We voted in the 98 referendum against our independence. We are still part of the British Commonwealth. The Royals are as obligated to visit every bit as much as they might choose to. The Queen is 'our' queen by default, it's not something she 'chose' to be. Britain colonized this country, not 'us'.  Republicans are nonsensical people, because we could choose to be independent at any time. In fact we should be grateful that Britain doesn't orphan us, as it would be something that would undermine the little self esteem we have so bad, the we wouldn't never able to recover.
