Perhaps those dogs and cats were just mischief makers!
Though Muhammad did harbor a special hatred for dogs. I believe Mecca remains dog-free unto this day. Wouldn't it require an extra black heart to hate dogs? (except for someone with an inborn fear or that had been attacked by one!)

Quran Surah 5:33 The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off from opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.

For example the Christian mother of five that waits on death row in Pakistan for a false accusation of blasphemy brought against her by anti-Christian bigot coworkers.

Regardless, this is a disgusting act and I hope they punish people who do this kind of stuff.

Pretty sure even if they where muslim,the  majority of muslims would find this act totally disgusting and against the teachings of islam.
