Abbott needs good policies that will provide Australian's with a reason to vote for him.....Anyone that thinks polls this far out from an election without seeing Abbott's policies means anything is deluded to say the least!!!

But if labor tell us their policies, can we believe them.  Not a chance. (There will be no carbon tax under a government labor leads). Can we believe labor will be competent regardless of policies. Not a chance.

Me think you are deluded.

No point trying to debate you mate when you cannot see the reality in the face of a hung parliament.....Julia Gillard is facing a backlash for her broken promise and rightly so....However my point still stands that Abbott must provide a solid policy platform before the next election to get elected....He will not be voted in if he does not provide policies people want will he???

progs has a great point though, and this is something that I (and many others) have been asking for months now: how can any word/policy be believed by Gillard with her track record of lying?

The same reasons Howard was known as mean and tricky but still managed to get elected despite people expecting him to lie at each election.
Labor leaders lie and so do Coalition leaders..unless you just came down in the last shower you would know this.

Mr Howard never made such a blatant lie as the carbon tax one. When he changed his mind on the GST, he took it straight to a new election.

It's not a policy though, and not something that will affect everyone like the $23 carbon tax lie.

Exactly. Only Iraqis and a few Aussie diggers.

That's nothing like having to pay $23 to this incompetant government.

Children overboard - Mr Howard took that to an election as well.

The more you look at it, Matty, the more you realise how full of lies and deceit Juliar's government really is.

Howards was proven to be a liar and found to be so by the people!!!

Howard censured over push for war with Iraq

Prime Minister John Howard was yesterday censured by the Senate for misleading the public in his justification for sending Australia to war with Iraq.

It was only the fourth time in more than three decades a sitting prime minister has been censured and the second in Mr Howard's seven-and-a-half years in office.

The motion attacked Mr Howard for failing to adequately inform Australians that intelligence agency warnings about a war with Iraq would increase the likelihood of a terrorist attack.

It also noted that no evidence had yet been produced by Mr Howard to justify his claims that in March this year, Iraq possessed stockpiles of completed biological chemical weapons that justified going to war.

The Opposition, Greens and Australian Democrats voted together to defeat the Government by 33 votes to 30.

Greens senator Bob Brown said Mr Howard was involved in an unprecedented deceit of the nation and deserved censure.

He said Mr Howard had argued that Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and support of international terrorism threatened Australia. "It has become abundantly clear that the Prime Minister was not just a bit wrong. He was totally wrong," he told parliament.

Defence Minister Robert Hill said the Australian and other governments believed Saddam Hussein's weapons programs posed a very real danger.

Opposition Senate leader John Faulkner said Mr Howard had been loose with the truth on issues of national security.

Mr Howard was censured by the Senate in March 2002 over his failure to stop Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan's attack on High Court Justice Michael Kirby.

The reasons for censure are still relevant today.....No evidence has ever been produced by Howard or anyone else.....Yet he told Parliament he had proof.....he lied!!!

Frankly I think she's deserved a better run than she's had. Ultimately though it's up to her to make the best out of what she's got.

I agree with that, but the sexist assholes that run the right wing media in this country were always going to do a job on her for their "boy",phony tony.

Frankly, I don't think that Gillard, Rudd, Abbott, Turnbull OR 99.9% of the other Pollies are up to the job!

Which is why it now boils down to picking the best options, out of some lousy choices!

And, we now really have an outstanding bunch to pick from, as far as really poor choices are concerned!

Maybe the best way, as has been put before, is to pick someone not yet in parliament, who has yet been indoctrinated?

But we all know that's not how the "system" works!

you've said that before and the obvious objection to it still applies. Under your system every MP would be an inexperienced newbie. if you think thats a good idea, then next time you want an electrician make sure you get an apprentice on his first week to rewire your house.

LW,
Do you know what generally happens when "our system" sends a small time criminal to jail?

of what possible relevence is that to this thread or my post????

'being wrong' is not a lie. it is only a lie when you KNOW you are wrong - such as gillard promising no carbon tax.

Well before the invasion it was widely known that the excuses for the invasion were lie. One million people marched in this country because of it.

a senate censure is about a meaningless as you can get. it was political grandstanding and nothing more. and Howard was re-elected - something Gillard wont be doing.

no they WERENT known at all. the march was about going for ANY reason. it wasnt until after the invasion that the truth was known. Up unil then it was nothing more than an opinion - on both sides.  being right in hindsight doesnt not make the opposing opinion a lie - only wrong.
