The Olympics in Paris…
Jul 22nd, 2024 at 8:00pm

It’s good timing to see a lot about gay Paree.
We will be there after the Olympics finish in Sept.
A must see will be Moulin Rouge! Looks fantastic!
I’m looking forward to trying the croissants and French bread there to compare with Melbourne.
Of course escargot in garlic!
I’m still feeling nervous with a big trip but looking forward to it all.
My left foot still in a moon boot with time to heal before Sept.

Anyway, fractured rib and fractured toe… so moon boot it is… clod hopper me  Grin
But it helps, and looking forward to walking normal.
Maybe start the gym again next week.
Here’s a pic of similar to what I’m wearing …

Ahhhh I remember you said severely grazed elbows, a cracked rib too eh?

Yup—I am very careful when walking Socks on the lead. Bitch has very well developed muscles and she is very strong—so I scan ahead to see if there are anything might cause Socks to run, like a suicidal chicken foraging on the nature strip.

Today I took Socks for a longer walk—compensation for all the time in the car yesterday. Walked around a bend in the track—ahead and heading our way was a car with a horse trotting beside it. I halted and waited, assessing the situation. Car indicated right so I waited for it to do that then walked ahead with Socks and turned the corner into the street that connects with mine. Later I saw the idiot had turned into the same street so took Socks to the far end of the nature strip and let the duo pass.

What you see in the more rural districts! I love it here! It is winter yet temperatures during the day are in the teens mostly, a few cold days.

An Australian tourist was gang-raped by five African men in Paris before fleeing to a kebab shop where one of her attackers followed her inside.

The woman, 25, was attacked at about 3am on Saturday morning near Boulevard de Clichy in the French capital’s 18th arrondissement, close to the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret, just days before the Olympic Games is due to begin.

She sought refuge in a nearby kebab shop with her dress on backwards and partially torn, only for one of her rapists to confront her again, CCTV footage from the store obtained by 7 News shows.

The footage shows the victim being helped by customers and staff before an African man in black pants and a white T-shirt walks in.

According to 7 News she tried to tell locals he was one of the attackers, but they were unable to speak English.

As he made an order and lingered in the shop, she was able to alert an English speaker, who confronted the African.

He the fled the shop just minutes before police arrived.

The kebab store owner said: “She couldn’t stop crying, her dress was damaged.”

A local told the TV network that sex attacks were becoming increasingly common in Paris.

It happens a lot of time in France, it happens every day,” he said.

Paris police statistics from earlier this year showed that 77% of the solved rape cases in 2023 were committed by non-citizens, and most were committed in or near tourist areas. Paris is 20.3% foreign-born.

The city’s prosecutor’s office said: “The investigation into the charge of gang rape likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20 has been entrusted to the 2nd judicial police district.”

The victim was due to return to Australia the day after she was gang-raped, but is now staying to assist with the investigation after being treated at Bichat hospital.

Two radio technicians from the Channel Nine Olympic team have been attacked in Paris in “an assault of serious physical nature” on Tuesday, just days after the gang rape of a 25-year-old Australian woman in the French capital.

Channel Nine’s director of sport Brent Williams has informed staff in Paris that two team members had left the International Broadcast Centre and were walking to accommodation in the north east suburb of Le Bourget when they were attacked by a group of men.

La Bourget = 40% 'immigrants', ie africans and arabs. It certainly wasn't a group of French men going home from a game of boules in the park.

'Arrive in France, we'll kill you': Israeli Olympians threatened ahead of Paris games

Israel will be sending armed Shin Bet agents to Paris to prepare for the largest ever security operation for Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games.

Israeli Olympians taking part in Paris 2024 have received death threats, hate messages, and vitriol online over the last few days, Israeli and foreign media reported on Saturday.

Walla reported that, over the weekend, Israeli athletes received online messages written in poor Hebrew. Many also received calls from foreign numbers. On Thursday and Friday, 15 athletes and their teams received identical death threats via email, warning them they would be killed if they arrived in France, Walla reported.

Religion of peace, innit.

The original values of Olympism as expressed in the Olympic Charter were to “encourage effort”, “preserve human dignity” and “develop harmony”.

In antiquity, all wars were suspended for the duration of the olympics and participants were free to travel to and from the games, even through enemy territories.   But today Allah knows best. The enemy is WITHIN the walls, threatening the guests of the olympic host.

France’s train network sabotaged in arson attack ahead of opening ceremony

A series of fires have hit French high-speed rail lines, hours before the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony

Rail company SNCF says it’s a “massive attack aimed at paralysing the network”, while French transport minister condemned the “co-ordinated malicious acts”

Up to  800,000 customers are affected with disruption expected all weekend, the rail firm says.

Buddhists, no doubt. Or Quakers.

I’m glad we won’t be there until mid Sept!
The athletes must be nervous, all this politics shouldn’t be mixed with sport!
It gets worse with each time an Olympic is held somewhere.
Hopefully everything will be back in a nice orderly don’t give a stuff who we are vibe when we are there!
Besides, I’m only there 2 days and want to compare their croissants and French bread with ours here in greater Melbourne and surrounds. Oh and the garlic infused snails.

I would’ve loved to stay longer to go see Denain…. my dad worked in the mines there as a young man. Escaping the ravages of war in Italy.
Dad always loved his French snails I recall when growing up and couldn’t understand it!
He was fluent with the French language too.
Anyway, I hope all goes well for Paris Olympics.

bonne soirée

France's transport minister condemns the "co-ordinated malicious acts"

Some 800,000 customers will be affected with disruption expected all weekend, the rail firm says

We're hearing that hundreds of workers are being deployed to help rebuild affected cables, which will be fixed "one by one".
Investigators will be focusing their attention on activists and known extremists, as well as any possible links to the Kremlin.
