Well that was as well argued as expected. Good to see you don't believe in supply vs demand.

🔑 Core Mechanism: Demand Shock + Inelastic Supply
When single-income families dominated (1950s–1970s), most households had one earner. As female labor force participation surged (from ~38% in 1970 to ~57% today), average household income rose sharply. This created a massive demand shock: two people earning meant more money to spend on homes, cars, education, healthcare, and services. But supply couldn’t keep up. When demand outpaces supply, prices rise.
🔗 [BLS Labor Force Participation Rate] | 🔗 [Pew Research Center: The American Middle Class]

🏠 Housing: The Biggest Driver
Housing is where this effect is most visible:

In the 1970s, a median home cost ~2–3× median household income. Today, it’s often 5–8× in many markets.
Two-income families could bid higher for limited housing stock. Zoning restrictions, slow permitting, land scarcity, and construction costs kept supply tight.
Higher incomes → higher bids → prices rise → the next generation needs two incomes just to afford what one income bought before. This created a self-reinforcing cycle. 🔗 [FHFA House Price Index]| 🔗 [NAR Affordability Reports]
Thomas Sowell, Basic Economics (Ch. 3) explains how rising incomes bid up prices of fixed-supply assets like housing/land.
🎓🏥 Education & Healthcare: Service Sector Inflation
These sectors saw even steeper cost increases, driven by similar dynamics:

As household incomes rose, families demanded better schools, college degrees, and healthcare. But supply expanded slowly (especially in higher education), while administrative costs ballooned.
Two-income households could pay more for tutoring, private schooling, or premium care, pushing prices up industry-wide. This is partly explained by Baumol's cost disease: sectors with slow productivity growth see wages rise to match the broader economy, but without efficiency gains, prices must increase. 🔗 [Trends in College Pricing]| 🔗 [CMS National Health Expenditure Data]
💡 The "Double Income" Paradox
Individual wages stagnated for many workers since the 1970s, but household income grew because of two earners. Prices rose to absorb that extra purchasing power. So while families were better off in absolute terms, they needed more money just to maintain their standard of living. This turned the second income from a "luxury" into a necessity.
🔗 [Brookings: The Two-Income Trap]

You, sir, have a handle on the MADIF - the Mandatory Dual Income Family that destroyed the West.

My kudos as a prophet is growing daily.  You didn't really think I was as the gutter press portrayed me, did you?

Quote:
Gnads, reality shows like MAFS (I actually hate the show) is laden with so much strife and drinking at dinner table with toxic behaviour by some!
Some are influencers and that Tyson is one such influencer where he thinks he’s the man of the house and the woman has to abide by him.
What message is that giving younger single blokes?
We can’t close our eyes to all this sh1t going on out there.

I hate these so called "influencers".

Most are dumb as dogshyte & the last people in the world who should be offering advice let alone actually influence people.

RE: That Tyson bloke - I see that first hand close to home.

And in all that I blame the internet/social media & this "manosphere" bs & the un-feminising of young women
who think they have to do all the sorts of things young men do .....

and in many cases when there's trouble out somewhere at night - party, pub, nightclub etc.
it's more than likely caused first off by young women.

Quote:
AI generated - Overall, drinking rates between young men and young women are converging, largely because heavy drinking behaviors have declined among young men while slightly increasing or holding steady among young women.(US National Institute of Health)

Then there's this latest yank Reailty TV show they are advertising ...

called Double Lives of Suburban Wives - Grin

Quote:
It follows six housewives and mothers from St. Louis who live seemingly ordinary suburban lives by day but run highly lucrative online adult content and "spicy" video accounts by night. The show explores how they balance parenthood, marriage, and church with their adult entertainment side hustles.

So they're doing porn on the side & putting this on TV.

Some Yanks have no shame when comes to 15mins of fame.

YOU obviously suffer from "Jilted Male Ideology Disorder." It's a common disorder among terminal internet incels who couldn't even get a date with a fat furry. The individual feels that women are either evil or are naturally inclined to whoop the crap out of the misogynist. Therefore, they feel it's necessary to get back at women for their bitterness at life in general.

"Dr. Edward Morbius: [frustrated] Id, Id, Id, Id, Id!
[calming down]

Dr. Edward Morbius: It's a... It's an obsolete term. I'm afraid once used to describe the elementary basis of the subconscious mind.

Commander John J. Adams: [to himself] Monsters from the Id...

Dr. Edward Morbius: Huh?

Commander John J. Adams: Monsters from the subconscious. Of course. That's what Doc meant. Morbius. The big machine, 8,000 miles of klystron relays, enough power for a whole population of creative geniuses, operated by remote control. Morbius, operated by the electromagnetic impulses of individual Krell brains.

Dr. Edward Morbius: To what purpose?

Commander John J. Adams: In return, that ultimate machine would instantaneously project solid matter to any point on the planet, In any shape or color they might imagine. For *any* purpose, Morbius! Creation by mere thought.

Dr. Edward Morbius: Why haven't I seen this all along?

Commander John J. Adams: But like you, the Krell forgot one deadly danger - their own subconscious hate and lust for destruction.

Dr. Edward Morbius: The beast. The mindless primitive! Even the Krell must have evolved from that beginning.

Commander John J. Adams: And so those mindless beasts of the subconscious had access to a machine that could never be shut down. The secret devil of every soul on the planet all set free at once to loot and maim. And take revenge, Morbius, and kill! "

And an occasional treat.

You can thank feminism and dual incomes for that. You can't double household income and not expect inflation to eat that back to the equivalent of one income. Supply and demand, basic economics.

Perhaps there’s more to that.
It’s had me pondering.
In my time, it was chosen I would be full time mum at home, I did all the shopping, cleaning, cooking, laundering, bookkeeping and paying bills, banking, running the kids to and from playgroups, kindergartens, school, and medical and dental appointments, and to all their after school sport activity.
I was very astute at budgeting too. I saved on childcare which I recall started coming in and working mums were spending all their earnings on the weekly childcare!
If hubby needed car parts I would go shop for them for best price. Yes with naughty little toddlers with me  Grin

But prices/inflation is so high now, one income can’t be enough. And as for fuel prices! Enough said!
Gym and mobile phones and internet and Netflix were non existent for me as a young parent, so there’s a savings right there!
Even though there is a trend for one of the mums or dads to be stay-at-home full time parent while the other works, there can’t be much left for holidays, cruises, sporting events etc
This exorbitant rise to cost of living is worse than ever!

What I recall….how other working women would look down on women like us full time mums, with a stupid sarco way asking “Do you wooork”
I reply “no! I do nothing!”
Even now I get asked what I do, I say “As little as possible!”
I hated that judgemental time.
Another mum I admired was also taking in foster care for babies/young children.
She had a badge “Every mother is a working mother”

Anyway. I read a lot of books and studied a lot at that time.
I got to understand finances very well and about real estate.
But that’s another story.  Wink

1) I used hear that attitude and that kinda thing said about stay at home mums by other women(feminists).
2) Yes they are and it's the most important job in the world.

That said, I'm not against women that want to work to go out and do it but it shouldn't be forced on them by feminism as it pretty much was. Also if you want a career, fine, but don't complain about how hard it is to do that with kids, make a choice, no-one gets to have their cake and eat it too. No-one should subsidise your childcare.

My wife and I both worked part time so someone was home with the kids, we never put them in child care. It was our responsibility to care for them. My mum worked part time after we reached school age.

The point I was trying to make was that feminism basically tried to force women into the workforce and that killed single income households being able to afford not to become dual income households to make ends meet. In the end, now, both have to work to get the same financial outcome that was the norm when households were not. Great for the capitalists, two for the price of one  Grin.

In all honesty and on franks op topic we ( men) in the vast majority don’t need a government department to help us with life.

We need less taxes and less government.

Free beer would be a bonus.

Seriously the male race was doing ok  for before the university educated intervention , slogans and waste of money on focus groups and “ branding “ .

Just stop wasting everyone money on this crap.

Make it a buyin and if a male needs this support they can access it and pay for it.

Suddenly they have no customers….funny that?

men are naturally submissive.
that's why they follow so well. they love a hierarchy.
look at the military.
look at how they they dress like their favorite sports player.

if women were naturally submissive you would not need an entire system of oppression for centuries to keep women there

You are a sexually *ucked up idiot, Big Pussy.
One minute it's  men oppwessing women [a thread you started], the next minute men are submissive.

We are sitting here watching your psycho drama unfold. You are guilty for being oppwessive AND submissive. A total tit.

No one knows another persons story yet so many were quick to judge.
I worked 7 years full time before I started a family at age 27.
I had 2 within 26 months and it was hard work and I had no quality sleep.

And here’s another BS judgementality, I am a night owl, which means I get up when the f… I want to in the late morning!

You know what else peeved me?
Being told to kick my kids out when they were teens if they misbehaved.
F… off I thought. Instead I told my kids, the door is always open and if ever they need me to pick them up if they needed a lift, no matter what time…I would come to them.

Now they are both nearing their mid 40s and constantly keep in touch and come visit and make sure we are okay.

We have 3 sons, all doing well, all keep in contact, good relationships with them all.

I've been talking to AI(no guardrails) about how things have changed with feminism and there are pros and cons for the adults but when I asked about how this benefits children... Not good at all.

This is the conclusion bit about the kids.

Summary: The Child's Perspective
If you look at a child as a biological organism that requires consistent social interaction, emotional stability, and predictable attachment to thrive, then the structural shifts of the last 50 years have been overwhelmingly detrimental.
Conclusion: You are right. By prioritizing the autonomy and economic output of the adults, society has inadvertently created a massive resource deficit for the developmental needs of the children. We have optimized for the survival of the adult, but we have compromised the thriving of the child.
