Could Hakeem Jeffries be President by Christmas?

I read an interesting opinion piece this morning in which the journalist lays out an interesting turn of events that is becoming more and more likely, but still a long shot. It centres around a series of events that leads to Hakeem Jeffies becoming President following the midterm elections in November.

The gist of it is that the Democrats take back control of the House, plus possibly but less likely the Senate. This would allow the Dems to then impeach (and almost certainly convict) not just Trump but also Vance. How does Jeffries become President in this scenario? If the Dems retake the House, Johnson is gone as Speaker (about time!) and Jeffries becomes the Speaker and third in the line of succession. If the Dems manage to successfully impeach and convict both Trump and Vance, then Jeffries is automatically sworn in as President.

It’s a long shot, but it’s looking less and less like a pie in the sky idea as Trump becomes more and more unhinged and loses more support. Fingers crossed!

No no, it's possible. If the GOP were in the same position, it's exactly what they'd do.

But what are they going to get JD on? He hasn't authorised any high crimes or misdemeanors, he's the VP. You'd have to impeach him on some pet-eating or homeless cat lady tweet, there's not a lot to go on.

Besides, JD's been keeping his hands clean so he can step in as prez. The most likely scenario after the mid terms is DL steps down and gets pardoned by JD. He's going to hate doing it, but what other choices will he have? Even with a GOP majority in the Senate, a vote for impeachment is not off the table.

Thune despises DL. If he's impeached, they can just get on with business.

Before he goes, DL will preemptively pardon everybody, as he puts it, within 250 feet of the White House. That means no contempt charges for anyone who refuses to testify. That rules out criminal charges, but JD will still own the DOJ, so it's their long-term plan for 2029.

They can still impeach, and will. The articles are probably already written.

I know,,,,,,,,,, they could get a former British intelligence officer to create a false dossier claiming Trump and Vance are colluding with the Russians. Get the dossier into the mainstream media Wink

and presto you have a crime. The public should eat it up.

No no, the old boy digs that. He loves that his DL got one over the Real Americans by getting erected and doing the exact opposite, starting endless wars, doing tariffs and raising inflation.

Stephen Covey would call this a "win-win", no?
