US jets downed : Iran’s ‘new advanced defence syst

One US service member has been found after an American F-15 fighter jet was shot down by Iran, a US official says. A search-and-rescue operation is understood to be continuing for a second crew member.

A second US plane crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said it targeted the "enemy" A-10 'tank buster' ground attack plane. Its pilot has been rescued.

US jet downed by Iran’s ‘new advanced defence system’

The downed US jet highlights the “false claims” made by President Trump that the US had destroyed Iran’s air defence system, says Ebrahim Zolfaghari, the spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al Anbiya central headquarters.

In a televised address, he said it was downed using Iran’s “new advanced defence system”.

He added that “an advanced hostile fighter jet was also targeted south of Qeshm Island, crashing into the waters between Qeshm and Hengam Islands”.

Two U.S. UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were hit by Iranian ground fire during a search-and-rescue mission for crew members of a downed F-15E Strike Eagle over Iran on April 3, 2026. The helicopters sustained minor damage and injuries to crew members, but all personnel were safely recovered, with one Black Hawk seen trailing smoke as it crossed into Iraq.

The US is saying that search is under way for one crew in the jet that went down in southwestern Iran. One crew was rescued, but search is under way for another.

They also did indicate that a Black Hawk helicopter taking part in the search was hit, but was able to continue flying.

There’s some conflicting reports that another helicopter, also a Black Hawk, was also shot at.

Then there is the A-10 Warthog, another Air Force plane, which provides close ground support for any troops that are on the ground, that has apparently gone down. One of the two crew members has been found. The other one is still being looked for.

I feel the truth is in the helos damaged - if it was sophisticated air defence - other than AAA or basic ground fire - I doubt they would have gotten away with minor damage.

More AA suppression missions inbound, I'd say.... take the gloves off....

What are three US fighter jets doing flying over a foreign country obviously without permission especially in a time period where the US has just bombed a country in a surprise attack ? You would expect countries in that region to be on high alert and to react quickly. Especially with a US leader that the world cannot trust to act in a sane manner.
