Thinking of visiting Dubai

I heard that they have these amazing light shows now in Dubai with sound effects !

Very explosive energy from all reports and it keeps both visitors and locals on the edge of their seats !

Many reporters say people have been blown away by the new fireworks show in 🇦🇪 UAE and its to die for!!?

It must be amazing show because I can’t even find a flight in or out of Dubai 🥲

The heat is disgusting.

I've always arrived in Dubai at night or early morning, and it's always been well over 30 degrees.

Once the sun comes up, and it creeps towards 40, you can feel the intense heat through the windows in the airport.

Before land at Bahrain. Put a cold can or two after the first one between your wrists to cool your core temperature 🌡️ down to 35C if possible. A slight chill shivering should let you know.
This will allow you to be comfortably chilled out for up to 4 hours in even 40C+ heat once you're landed and outside.
Icepaks from your motel room should also make your stay more pleasant and receive good comments from locals who notice you're like a natural.

I hope this war ends before Oct / Nov this year.

Had an "interesting" e-mail from Qatar Airways today ...

"Important: Your flight has been cancelled". Shocked

Turns out, one leg of the return journey was cancelled by a code-share airline. Lisbon to Madrid run by Iberian airlines under the Qatar banner.

So ... tried to find an alternative online. No luck. All roads led to "Please contact us" at Qatar Airways.

OK ... tried the phone to the Sydney office. Three times, the number failed to connect. Finally got in the call queue but the call-back function failed to work, had to stay on the line. An hour or so later ... gave up.

Tried the online chat on the PC. No luck. Just not working at all. Undecided

Tried calling back on the phone a while later ... same story, in the queue again ... another hour later no progress. Gave up.

Last resort ... tried the chat in the Qatar mobile app.

Posted my query for an alternative flight ... waited waited .... no response for ages.

Looked at the app some time after, they had replied asking how can they help?, but the app didn't send an alert, so I didn't respond in time. They closed the chat. Roll Eyes

Tried again.

Same story ... took ages to reply and I missed it again! Shocked

O.K. Third time lucky ... finally got the chat session in sync - explained that one leg of the homeward trip had been cancelled today, but I saw on the Iberian airlines site that a different flight number, different aircraft but same date and time flight was showing up. Can you get us on that flight instead?

Nope.

Huh? Shocked

What if I book direct with Iberia? Can you refund me just that leg of the journey?

Nope. We cannot refund part of the journey, we can only cancel and refund the entire return trip.

Shocked

O.K. Are there any other options?

Yes, there is a flight on the following day direct from Lisbon to Doha.

Ah! That sounds like a handy alternative.

So, bypass Madrid completely?

Yes.

Good, I would like to accept that change.

From then on, all was smooth as silk, got the new e-tickets with the new flights within a couple of minutes. Cool

Only problem now is: I need to extend our hotel booking in Lisbon by one more day. (We were going to spend 2 days in Lisbon, now need to make it 3)

Sheesh, it was a stressful few hours.

Also, we get back one day after the Victorian State election .... I'm not sure if we can postal vote a month in advance ...

Too bad.

I was going to vote One Nation just for a laugh anyway! Cheesy

I really hope this holiday goes ahead.

Come on Trump ... give us a break!

I was exhausted after reading the hassle you went through!
Glad you persevered but what awful after sales service! Very poor!

But fancy sending message your flight cancelled, and offering no alternatives as good measure/customer care.
I’m wondering what all other passengers are experiencing for that cancelled as well to make changes?

So how are flights everywhere going in general with this Iran war and fuel crisis?
It’s a bit of a worry and travel insurance is a must!

I don't like Bahrain,
As we passengers walked off the plane down a corridor to the transit lounge -
there were 4 greasy looking army soldiers with sub machine guns looking at us.
I thought - WTF? - they know we're unarmed passengers -
what are the guns for - to shoot us?

I don't like Bahrain,
As we passengers walked off the plane down a corridor to the transit lounge -
there were 4 greasy looking army soldiers with sub machine guns looking at us.
I thought - WTF? - they know we're unarmed passengers -
what are the guns for - to shoot us?

There’s a lot of army guys with those guns as we go towards the Eiffel tower!
Must be a trouble spot? The tour guide didn’t want us there longer than 15 minutes!
I was so annoyed, travel all that way from overseas, to be in Paris and I only get 15 minutes for the Eiffel Tower, the sun was rising from behind the tower and photos were difficult shooting into the sun!
But there was plenty time allowed for Arc de Triomph! Quite fascinating watching the crazy traffic circling it! Didn’t see any army guys there with guns.

Yes, I was a little surprised that they didn't suggest this change straight away ...

Mind you, it must be absolute chaos at the moment with the war going on.

Oct / Nov seems a long way off but I wonder if things are going to settle down by then. Undecided

I went to the Eiffel Tower without any tour guide.
I was there for hours and
also at the Arc de Triomph.
I went to the top and took piccies.
