Australians suffering because of Trump’s war, says Hastie

Liberal frontbencher Andrew Hastie has blasted Donald Trump for starting a war with no end date or clear strategic objective, as he appealed to conservative voters to think twice before abandoning the Coalition to support One Nation.

Hastie, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan who holds leadership aspirations, said voters needed reminding that One Nation is a strong supporter of the war against Iran, a point Pauline Hanson reaffirmed again on Wednesday when she declined to criticise Trump for his prosecution of the war.

Hastie was speaking on Thursday to radio 2GB and responding to a listener called Anna who had rung in to detail the hardship she was facing due to the explosion in petrol prices.

“This is Donald Trump’s choice,” he said of the war. “I’ve been pretty tough on Donald Trump over the last week because it’s people like Anna who get smashed. And I should remind you that One Nation has been pretty strong in supporting Donald Trump’s war – that’s not a point that’s made very often, but I want to make it to your listeners today.”
