Telstra is shaping up to cut another 650 jobs, eight months after axing 550 roles.

An announcement to staff on Tuesday, reported by the ABC, shows Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady detailing how 209 jobs from the company’s joint AI venture with Accenture are on the chopping block.

In addition, 442 roles are set to be cut and the work outsourced to Indian firm Infosys.

Workers whose jobs are set to be outsourced can submit an expression of interest to work for Infosys, or take a redundancy, the Telstra chief executive says.

A Telstra spokesman told NewsWire that aspects of Telstra’s system and processes for dealing with commercial customers “continues to slow us down and makes it harder to deliver the reliability and simplicity our customers expect”.

“We’ve proposed changes to streamline duplicated work, clarify accountability and strengthen our ability to deliver better experiences for both our frontline teams and our customers,” the spokesman said.

Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady announced the job losses on Tuesday.

The $700m joint venture with Accenture began in early 2025.

The Telstra spokesman said: “If the proposals go ahead, both Telstra and the JV are committed to exploring redeployment opportunities for those people impacted.

“Our Telstra team will be able to apply for open roles at Telstra, and the JV team will be able to apply for open roles at Telstra or Accenture.

“If that’s not possible and people leave Telstra or the JV, they’ll have access to leading retrenchment benefits and a range of support services.”

12 months ago Telstra was skiting about how it was bringing more of it's call centre work back to Australia.

Lying bastards.

You have to wonder at what point is it that Telstra becomes an Indian company ?

This is the shining example for how privatisation works for the benifit of Australians. Some really stupid people try to claim that Telsta is an example of a sucessful privitisation.
