"Here’s the short version. No formal agreement was reached, since the Pre-COP doesn’t adopt decisions. The new pledges were:

About US$15 million to the Pacific Resilience Facility from Fiji, Ireland and others. Fiji’s share is US$10 million. The fund is still well short of its US$500 million target.
A$3 million from Australia for Pacific climate resilience.
Australia’s Access to Finance Statement and Action Plan, which aims to cut the red tape that slows money reaching vulnerable communities.
Fiji’s five-year carbon market plan, designed to attract international climate finance.

The bigger pledging push for the fund is expected at COP31 in Antalya next month."

So the pre=COP raised less than its cost. Cool

El Niño set to be wettest on record as storms soak Australia’s east

    By ABC meteorologist Tom Saunders
    Posted Sat at 5:22am

This year remains on track to become Australia’s wettest El Niño year on record, and the first ever with above-average national winter-spring rainfall.

October has been particularly damp thanks to an ongoing outbreak of showers and thunderstorms forecast to affect more than half the country during the next seven days.

Already this week, Sydney has been drenched by more than 100 millimetres of rain, central Queensland has been lashed by severe flash flooding, while outback storms brought destructive winds to Alice Springs.

The focus for storms today is Queensland where an influx of tropical moisture could pave the way for intense cells, and the risk of flash flooding, most likely over inland regions south of Longreach.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10-17/2026-may-become-australias-wettest-el-nin...

The super El Nino is actually, at the moment, defying predictions about its effect on Australia. Rainfall now means the soil is damper ahead of Summer. But still some time to go.

True. But floods are temporary.
Droughts can ruin industry and towns over many years.

Droughts too are temporary, the deaths from floods are not temporary, the businesses lost are often permanent. Lismore is still recovering from 2022. Floods affect more people.

I know of towns in the Riverina that lost half its populations because of 10 years of drought.
I lived in Leeton during the massive 2011 flood. It was temporary &  since then, with wetter years, Farming productivity has boomed.

I must add. They advantage of the Riverina (x3 days & nights of very heavy downpour) is that its amazing Canal systems dispersed the flood waters outwards quickly.
Unlike other areas, where the flood sits around longer like a dirty duckpond.

From AI: Lismore is built on a floodplain due to its location in a valley where several creeks and rivers converge, making it prone to flooding. This has resulted in a long history of severe flooding events in the area

Just sayin'
