Five countries directly attacked Israel in 1948: Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Transjordan (now Jordan). They marched in the day after Israel declared its independence. Israel has been under some sort of attack ever since. Not sure if they managed 24 hours of peace.

"The Israelis now allege that the war began with the entry of the Arab armies into Palestine after 15 May 1948. But that was the second phase of the war; they overlook the massacres, expulsions and dispossessions which took place prior to that date and which necessitated Arab states’ intervention."

So they can continue lobbing rockets at Israel for all eternity, and "common logic" says they can blame the Jews for their terrorism?

It's a simple matter of basic morality and common sense. An invader cannot take over someone's home, move in, loot its contents, brutalize and imprison the inhabitants (including the most horrific and depraved acts like the kidnap, gang-rape and murder of a 12 year old girl and the lining up of dozens and dozens of innocent villagers in the town square and gunning them down) and then claim self-defense to murder the homeowners when they fight back.

Quote:
International law does not agree.

Yes it does. Read the article:

Quote:
The UN Charter, a treaty binding on all member states, codifies key rights and responsibilities of states. Among these are the duty to respect the self-determination of peoples (including the Palestinians), the duty to respect human rights, and the duty to refrain from the use of force against other states (where not authorized by the Security Council). Israel, for the 76 years of its existence, has been repeatedly in breach of these principles.

A temporary exception to the prohibition on the use of force is codified in Article 51 of the UN Charter for self-defense from external attacks. But importantly, no such right exists where the threat emanates from inside the territory controlled by the state. This principle was affirmed by the World Court in its 2004 opinion on Israel’s apartheid wall. And the Court found then, and again in its 2024 opinion on the occupation, that Israel is the occupying power across the occupied Palestinian territory. Thus, Israel, as the occupying power, cannot claim self-defense as a justification for launching military attacks in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, or the Golan Heights.

Of course, Israel, from within its own territory, can lawfully repel any attacks to protect its civilians, but it cannot claim self-defense to wage war against the territories it occupies. In fact, its principal obligation is to protect the occupied population. In doing so, an occupying power can undertake essential law enforcement functions (as distinct from military operations). But, given that the World Court has subsequently found that Israel’s occupation of the territories is itself entirely unlawful, even those functions would likely be illegitimate, except as strictly necessary to protect the occupied population and within a short timeline of withdrawal.

You cannot distinguish between attacks on a sovereign state by another sovereign state and attacks on an occupying state by the people it illegally occupies.

Quote:
Israel does have the right of self-defence, but only in precisely the same way other countries do. In fact, the only unique factor about Israel here is that it is the only country to have been found by the International Court of Justice specifically to have abused and exceeded the concept of right of self-defence, in its treatment of the Palestinians.

https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2023/11/the-right-of-self-defence/

And Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur on Palestine, says Israel’s assault on Gaza is without legal merit as ‘self-defense cannot apply in a context of military occupation’.

That's what Muslims do. Deliberately. Following Muhammad's example. And they got away with it. They rarely left anyone behind to complain about it.

Israel on the other hand has created a beacon of freedom and democracy in one of the most backwards, hostile, oppressive and corrupt regions on earth. Arab Muslim Israelis have more rights and freedoms, and more say in the governance of the country, than in any other middle eastern or north african country. The Muslims consider that immoral. No-one had to tell me, and I do not recall reading or hearing them from anyone else. Though it does not surprise if if plenty of other people are saying the same thing, because it is true. It is easy enough to see for yourself.

Israel is a beacon of freedom and democracy.

It is in one of the most backwards, hostile, oppressive and corrupt regions on earth.

Arab Muslim Israelis do have more rights and freedoms, and more say in the governance of the country, than in any other middle eastern or north african country.

And Iran is spending about a billion dollars a year funding terrorism, most of it used to spread racist anti-Jewish propaganda and trying to kill Jews. Just like Muhammad did.

How else are we supposed to respond when people say idiotic things like Israel practices racial segregation, without providing any evidence or even explanation? Has it occurred to you that maybe the anti-Jewish propaganda you like to spread is merely Iran getting some value from all that money it is spending? They don't have much to show for it in terms of dead Jews, but there sure are a lot of people spreading absurd, Nazi-esque propaganda.

Except if you are a follower of ISLAM........

Allah's Holy Koran has put into the heart of the follower of ISLAM,
that everything which the infidel possesses rightfully belongs to the believers.

AND.....THIS IS WHAT ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE
[in Australia] TEACHES TO THE DEVOUT MOSLEM, IN THE MOSQUE.

"Or have they gods that can guard them from Us? They have no power to aid themselves, nor can they be defended from Us.
...See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win?"
Koran 21:43-44

"And He made you [moslems] heirs to their [non-moslem] land and their dwellings and their property, and (to) a land which you have not yet trodden, and Allah has power over all things."
Koran 33:27

"....those who reject Allah have no protector."
Koran 47.008
v. 8-11

.

It is all Allah's will.....

009.014
YUSUFALI: Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of Believers,
PICKTHAL: Fight them! Allah will chastise them at your hands, and He will lay them low and give you victory over them, and He will heal the breasts of folk who are believers.
SHAKIR: Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace, and assist you against them and heal the hearts of a believing people.

009.051
YUSUFALI: Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector": and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.
PICKTHAL: Say: Naught befalleth us save that which Allah hath decreed for us. He is our Protecting Friend. In Allah let believers put their trust!
SHAKIR: Say: Nothing will afflict us save what Allah has ordained for us; He is our Patron; and on Allah let the believers rely.

1948, 1967, 1973, etc, etc.

In the conflict that exists between Israel and her neighbours, the moslem nations surrounding Israel have always been the belligerents, the aggressors.

Further, international law allows nations who are attacked [e.g. the state of Israel, 1948], to occupy and annex land that was previously recognised as being a part of another state [e.g. Arab states, 1948] because of aggression and attacks, upon a neighbouring state [Israel, 1948].

And international laws does not prohibit a state which was attacked [e.g. the state of Israel, 1948], from occupying and annexing the lands of an aggressor, so as to prevent further attacks.

BECAUSE;
"...the effect of such (a) prohibition would be to guarantee to all potential aggressors that, even if their aggression failed, all territory lost in the attempt would be automatically returned to them. Such a rule would be absurd to the point of lunacy."

"ISRAEL AND INTERNATIONAL LAW....Israel’s presence in all these areas pending negotiation of new borders is entirely lawful, since Israel entered them lawfully in self-defence. International law forbids acquisition by unlawful force, but not where, as in the case of Israel’s self-defence in 1967, the entry on the territory was lawful. It does not so forbid it,....for the effect of such prohibition would be to guarantee to all potential aggressors that, even if their aggression failed, all territory lost in the attempt would be automatically returned to them. Such a rule would be absurd to the point of lunacy. There is no such rule..."

The world community needs to ask itself...
Why should Israel return the land it took in self defence, repulsing the ISLAMIC inspired aggression of local moslem states, when those states and peoples today, still declare, often openly, their enmity against the state of Israel???

Why should the belligerent moslem, and ISLAMIST peoples surrounding Israel be rewarded for their aggression???

It makes no sense to try to compel Israel to return those lands.

IMO, Israel should have immediately annexed that land, the land it secured and took, as a consequence of Arab/ISLAMIC aggression.

Israel is the ancient homeland of the Jewish people.

And today, imo, Israel should be recognised by mankind as the homeland of the Jewish people.

I mean, everybody's saying it, no? How are you supposed to respond?

Why, that's easy. You posted it all back in 2006

Quote:
Have you ever noticed how on some forums the debate always ends up as a personal slanging match? This can kill a forum as it puts off newcomers. Eventually, even those who are interested give up trying to have a serious debate. The bottom line is, no-one really cares about your personal vendettas or the outcome of your epic battles. At best, they just find it amusing to watch people wind themselves up.

There are two main causes of this. If the moderators fail to enforce a reasonable code of conduct, or they show bias in the enforcement of it, then heated arguments will be inevitable. However, even if members mean well they can still end up in pointless battles because they are unfamiliar with a few common ‘logical fallacies.’ These are common lines of argument that appear to make sense on the surface, but are based on false assumptions and ignorance. I will outline the more common ones below.

If people do not realise that an opponent is using a logical fallacy, they tend to use the same argument to back up their point of view, then put considerable effort into finding ‘evidence’ to back up this argument, even though it doesn’t make sense. Either that, or they put considerable mental effort into countering an argument. This effort can make the argument appear even stronger by suggesting that it has some merit and is difficult to counter. Trolls take advantage of these situations – effectively taking advantage of people’s ignorance – because they are a shortcut to a heated debate.

Cunning, no? Trolls take advantage of these situations – effectively taking advantage of people’s ignorance – because they are a shortcut to a heated debate.

So, how are you supposed to respond when people say idiotic things like Israel practices racial segregation, without providing any evidence or even explanation?

One reads their evidence and explanations, all posted in this very thread for you to see. All explanations evidenced, sourced and quoted, then repeated in case you missed it.

Now, if you beg to differ, you can say that. Excuse I, you can say, the state of Israel facilitates settler violence against Arabs, has created the death penalty for Arabs and has senior government members stating that they want to expell all Arabs because Israel is a beacon of freedom and democracy.

But then, you can hardly say that, now can you? According to you, it would be a logical fallacy. So, how are you supposed to respond?

I'm afraid you have only one option, FD.

You say ah.

Here we have the old boy, by way of a logical fallacy, saying the state of Israel has a right to take over someone's home, move in, loot its contents, brutalize and imprison the inhabitants because Islam is the invadeer everywhere, from from the Atlantic Ocean to India.

Of course, when we pointed out Israel is currently destroying Christian towns in Lebanon, he changed the subject, as you do.

FD, is this what you meant when you said trolls take advantage of these debates – effectively taking advantage of people’s ignorance – because they are a shortcut to a heated debate?

Cheers.
The US did the same with many of Japanese and German descent,  etc in WW II ..

Just so, only the US never denied them citizenship and created a legal category targeting them for execution, now did they?

The US never detained them indefinitely. The US never bombed their neighbourhoods to render them inhabitable, denied them food, water or medical services. The US never allowed settlers in to take their land, or pushed for their forced resettlement and exile.

The US, in perhaps its gravest human rights breach on its own soil, housed and fed their so-called enemy aliens for the duration of WWII, and that was that. All 31,000 went home.

Israel has killed a greater number of civilians in Gaza alone. Gaza has been occupied by Israel since 1967. Gazans have effectively lived in captivity since 2007, when Israel sealed the Rafah border. Today, all entry or exit from Gaza is strictly prohibited - particularly for journalists. Survivors are now at the mercy of the IDF, who are currently detaining and torturing civilians, including doctors.

In March, Israel began its invasion of southern Lebanon. Over 1.3 million people were forced off their land at gunpoint and had their homes, workplaces and communities destroyed. Roads, bridges, power lines - all infrastructure - have been systematically demolished. The IDF has even poisoned their water.

This isn't about Jews or Muslims. Many of those towns were Christian - their homes, farms, schools and even churches have been erased. Entire communities have been forced into homelessness, over a million living in cars and tents - indefinitely.

And Israel hasn't finished yet. Israel has taken over Lebanese air space, filling the Beirut sky with drones.

Beirut, a modern metropolitan city, a population of over 2.3 million, the same size as Perth, is now under siege. Israel uses drones to create sonic booms - blasts throughout the night, designed to keep the population on edge. You never know whether that explosion's going to get you.

After all, some do get you. In one round of bombings in April, Israel targeted neighbourhoods all over Beirut, killing 254 people, wounding over 700 more.

Entire blocks were flattened, the lucky ones being pulled from the rubble intact. Last month, another another two apartment blocks were taken out, killing, disabling and traumatising more. Israel had just signed a ceasefire.

But do you know? Israel is still, as FD points out, a failed democracy. Its citizens get a vote. Their current prime minister,  Bibi Netanyahu belongs to a nationalist party called Likud. They have an expansionist view of Israel, a vision known as Greater Israel. Likud's 1977 political slogan caught on: from the river to the sea.

Likud holds 32 out of 160 seats in Israel's Knesset. In order to get a majority, Bibi had to form a coalition with a messianic group of religious parties, most of whom believe Israel is above politics. Some of Netanyahu's cabinet don't believe in human rights, modern state borders or sovereignty. They look to books like Exodus and Leviticus for inspiration.

State Security Minister, Ben Gvir, leads Otzma Yehudit, a Jewish supremacist party that translates as Jewish Power. More accurately, they're an anti-Arab party, founded with a mission to deport all Arabs from Israel - not unlike Geert Wilders in Holland, but without the libertarianism. Gvir reintroduced the death penalty for terrorism, but for non-Jews only.

The bill targets Arabs, protecting Jews. After all, Gvir is also on record saying he is proud of settler violence and attacks on Arabs. On the day the bill got passed, Gvir attended parliament wearing a noose lapel-pin. Afterwards, he had a little party. He had selfies taken with a noose cake his wife had lovingly made.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich believes there's no such thing as Arab Palestinians. In 2023, he got busted at a public event in Paris, speaking in front of a map of Greater Israel, territory that included including Jordan. The slip happened before October 7, leading many to later join the dots.

But that was then. Greater Israel actually extends from the Nile to the Euphrates, a Promised Land many in the current Israeli government feel "historically and spiritually" aligned to. In 2025, Bibi confessed that he shares this mission.
