Most of the Jews who arrived from Europe would
be lucky to speak Yiddish and not many ever spoke Hebrew
and most have no genetic link to the people who lived in Israel 2,000 years ago.

Do you imagine that people just chose to be Jews when the near entire world hated them?  Unlike the Abos, there were no monetary advantage in becoming Jewish; no social advantage; no special rights or privileges; no preferential treatment under law unless you count pogroms and violence and abuse etc...

Unlike the Abos where there is clear and unwarranted and unfair advantage to be gained from crying about your 'heritage' and self-declaring out loud - to declare oneself a Jew in Europe could have easily been a death sentence... and indeed became so time after time... even the conquering Russians hated Jews with a vengeance and still do ........  vengeance for what you should be asking.

All those naked women, men and children forced to run into a ditch to be shot or herded into a room to be gassed ... all the while wondering what they could possibly have done to deserve such inhumane treatment......
