. . .that he alleges were issued to the Light Horse.
The topic started thus,
‘’Australian soldiers were among the last in the World to be generally issued with swords, India also comes to mind with a general issue of swords, particularly to Infantry units. A little known facet of our military histor Quote I assume you mean Officers, Eugene?
No, other ranks, mainly Privates.
Oh. dearie, dearie, me, Privates have never been issued with Swords in the Australian Army, Eugene. Privates were at worst issued with Sword-Bayonets - extra long Bayonets and they were issued only to the Light Horse regiments. Tsk, tsk, tsk...
No, Brian, we were issued with Swords, bayonet, Pattern 1907 ( without quillion). As you should well know the Army in its designations says.what the item is, followed by a supporting description, then other relevant information, eg. Truck, 1/4 ton, GP. The well known "Jeep". So the general side arm for the Australian soldier up into the 1960s was a sword that was designed to also be a bayonet. Where did you get that bit about the Light Horse having long bayonets? They had Swords, bayonet, 1907 Pattern just like the rest of the army.’’
My lasr post [as follows] on this subject has been deleted from Brian’s Kingdom of ‘’Defence’’ as being off topic.
‘’ Sir Eoin O Fada wrote on 12th Feb, 2024 at 8:50am: Here's a bit more information, Brian. "AIF soldiers were issued with a thick woollen khaki uniform, a broad-brimmed slouch hat with a Rising Sun badge, a rifle and a long sword bayonet" AIF, not just the Light Horse, and the. 'long sword bayonet' was the Sword, bayonet, Pattern 1907, Mk1. [url] https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/wars-and-missions/ww1/military-organisation/army-
Now come up with your own version of history.
Yesterday, 24 June 2025.
‘’Well, Brian, as you obviously won't reply to any questions about your extra long bayonets being issued to the Light Horse, and only to them. I must assume that you are lying and that such bayonets never existed, so your own posts show you for what you are, a prevaricator who would denigrate the brave Australians who charged at Beersheba with their 17 inch bladed Swords, bayonet, Pattern 1907 Mk 1. [with quillon]
To quote Benjamin Disraeli you are ‘’A sophistical rhetorician, inebriated with the exuberance of his own verbosity, and gifted with an egotistical imagination that can at all times command an interminable and inconsistent series of arguments to malign an opponent and to glorify himself."
I rather thought that it was on topic, still Brian Ross has replied in a somewhat underhanded way, but that’s a start.😀😀 ‘
