there was a risk Moira Deeming could be dropped in favour of Indian community leader Dinesh Gourisetty, who was challenging her at this weekend’s preselection.

Deeming, who was only contesting the top spot on the ticket, will now lose her seat at the Victorian election later this year after the party delegates voted 37-29 against her.

The vote is conducted with delegates from Western suburbs branches and a random selection from metropolitan Melbourne to make up the numbers.

According to the Guardian:

‘Gourisetty attempted preselection in 2022, but he failed to secure the backing of the then-state party president, Robert Clark, and his allies, in part due to breaches of the Food Safety Act he pleaded guilty to in 2019. It led to Deeming’s preselection…’

This time, Gourisetty was successful with a wide margin of support.

Conservatives have taken to social media to vent their frustration at losing one of the most recognisable and respected members of the state Liberal team.

Deeming has been put through hell ever since the 2023 Let Women Speak rally where she was falsely (and ridiculously) accused of being associated with neo-Nazis who gate-crashed the rally. The black-clad group were regular agitators in Victoria before they were disbanded following the post-Bondi hate groups legislation.

Readers will remember the insanity of that saga, so we won’t repeat it here. Suffice to say, rolling Deeming after she survived attacks on her character is unlikely to go well for the Liberals at the next election where voters will pass judgment on the preselection result.

In the final days before the Victorian preselection, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott attempted to wade into battle, but it was far too little too late. There was probably no hope for her anyway, given the moderate faction’s opinion on the demise of Pesutto’s leadership, however self-inflicted it may have been.

Party leader, Jess Wilson, backed Deeming publicly (albeit weakly) along with other sitting members. This result has likely cemented the view that her leadership is too moderate to face-off against the One Nation challenge.

Worse, the loss of Deeming may have wider ramifications for the Liberal movement in general, as Deeming is a regular speaker at conservative events and one of the few who enjoys name recognition across the country.

Moira Deeming showed incredible strength by refusing to throw the Let Women Speak rally under the bus during the height of the anti-biology panic.

While it is rumoured some may view removing Deeming as a way to erase the ‘distraction’ that her conflict with Pesutto created, the voting public will likely interpret it negatively.

It will surprise no one that One Nation has immediately renewed its offer to Deeming. Given what we saw in South Australia, the Liberals may have just handed One Nation another chunk of the base.

State president Warren Pickering said: ‘Regardless of the direction the Liberal Party of Victoria has chosen to take, we’d hate to see Moira left in the same political wilderness with which the party itself has chosen to explore.’

As our Editor-in-Chief, Rowan Dean, tweeted today: Final act: Moira Deeming joins One Nation and runs for the same seat and wins it…

“When I came to this country, I recognised its decency and the privileges it accorded me,” said Sir Frank, now 95. “I also recognised the obligations of living in a tolerant democracy. “There has been a drift away from these obligations and more should be made of them when people apply to live here. They should understand the penalties (up to deportation) for failing to demonstrate the values that have served Australia so well for decades.”

Stressing that deportation should only be a last resort, Sir Frank told The Australian that education had to be the first objective for migrants.

“There is a social contract, in my opinion, that when you come to Australia as an immigrant, you’ve got to learn the language, you adopt the Australian way of life,” he said.

“They have to adopt the country that they come to. If they love the country they came from so much, why didn’t they stay there?”

“When I came to Australia from Europe in 1952, I was called a New Australian, and I liked the title of New Australian because suddenly I belonged somewhere.

“When I heard about ‘mateship’ and ‘a fair go’, they represented noble national aspirations.

“You adopt the Australian way of life. If you don’t like Australia, well, leave.

There’s a grotesque irony in Anthony Albanese’s starry-eyed “multiculture is who we are” rhetoric, on display at last week’s address to the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils Australia, just as news was breaking about the latest funding grant to support toxically corrosive social media videos, featuring current Taliban officials labelling Australian soldiers “terrorists”, and describing Australia’s spate of antisemitic attacks as staged hoaxes.

That this occurred under the umbrella of Tony Burke’s Multicultural Media program, designed to “strengthen social cohesion while increasing tolerance and understanding between individuals and groups in Australia”, inadvertently makes clear that this is not a bug but an ineradicable feature of the multiculture system.

The fracturing of Australian citizens into subgroup identities encourages ever deeper divisions. Equating culture – a question of habit, value and practice – with ethnicity, a matter of ancestry, repeats the foundational category error of the White Australia policy itself: the very doctrine it was conceived to expunge.

But the reality, which our confused political class is determined to ignore, is that our national identity – our culture – is not defined by ethnicity. If defined by anything, it is defined by democracy.

Ethnic diversity was a fact of our history long before it became an ideology. The attributes we invoke to describe the national character – the “fair go”, an unpretentious egalitarianism, an easygoing tolerance and a quiet, everyday freedom – are liberal democratic values, localised and nativised into an everyday Australian vernacular...
...

It is because of multiculturalism that people are nowadays even hesitant to acknowledge that we have a coherent, perceptible national culture, for fear of sounding “racist”.

The policy’s innate tendency to diminish the core national culture is the yawning vacuum at its heart. The problem with multiculturalism, as Donald Horne observed, is that it “gives us no clue about unity. Instead it takes for granted the existence of a unity that the embrace of diversity is supposed to build upon and be in counterbalance against.”

Multiculturalism, assumed by many to be an inherently benign, aspirational liberal project, is producing increasingly illiberal consequences. It needs to be discarded.

The collapse of the Australian project of common, shared identity, driven in significant part by state-sponsored reification of subgroup identities, means we increasingly look upon each other as not just civic strangers, but enemies. Only by emphatically reasserting our singular, shared and shareable national culture, grounded in the common virtues of our shared democratic inheritance, can we begin to turn this around.

We should listen and take heed of our historians like John Hirst who was a public intellectual and social commentator.  He argued that "while multiculturalism might serve the needs of ethnic politics and the demands of certain ethnic groups for government funding for the promotion of their separate ethnic identity, it is a perilous concept on which to found national policy. Multiculturalism denies the very notion of a host nation. However this may serve the needs of ethnic politics. As a serious historical or sociological analysis it is nonsense. To found policy on it may be perilous."

Historian Geoffrey Blainey achieved mainstream recognition as a critic of multiculturalism when he wrote that multiculturalism threatened to transform Australia into a "cluster of tribes".  Which we have found to be totally correct. In fact those clusters of tribes have evolved into several parallel societies, the most prominent of which is the Islamic society which is growing rapidly at an alarming pace due to our unchecked mass immigration. In his 1984 book All for Australia, Blainey criticised Australian multiculturalism for tending to emphasise the rights of ethnic minorities at the expense of the majority population and for being "anti-British."

As the Financial Review stated ... this is a wake-up call about the threat of ancient hatreds imported from the Middle East hardening into religious-based political tribalism here.

Which the UK has found to their detriment and we are now experiencing down here to a lesser but growing degree.  Just as the French and other parts of Europe are experiencing as their societies are trashed and burnt with the help of the useful idiots.  The Islamics will never back off.
