Immigration will be more important as time goes on.   Australia is a service related economy, and we are heading into an ageing crisis.   Studies have showed that by 2050, the proportion of those aged over 65 will be 25% (we are currently pushing 22%).   And the proportion of younger and tax producing population is decreasing.    Already nursing homes, and aged care support services are under funded and under staffed.   Without immigration of younger population, we simply cannot sustain.

Sir Niall Ferguson has run counter-factual models of British society if Britain had had low immigration since the 90s... The outcomes? If anyone thinks they are bad now, it would have been exponentially worse without immigration.

I am not sure if technology has advanced to this level yet, for a complete take over.  Perhaps for day to day, black and white issues, then yes.   But what if something is a bit more grey.    For example, if an elderly patient come in with fractured hip.  Then, instinctively, its preparing for surgery for hip replacement.   But, what if the patient already have a terminal illness, and only has days to live any way.   And there are thousands of different senarios , each with different human factors, I just dont think robots would be able to replace this.
