dropped 3% this morning in Australia already.

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/08/04/business/japan-nikkei-stock-rout-intl-hnk/ind...

The Nikkei 225 fell as much as 7.1% in early trade,

pushing its losses to 21% since early July. The index is poised to enter bear market territory, which is defined as a 20% pullback from recent highs. It later pared its losses to 5.8%.

On Friday, the index closed down 5.8%, marking its biggest daily drop since March 2020,

Corporate Australia flexed some serious muscle during the February reporting season, and shareholders are being rewarded with plenty of big dividend rises.

Mining giants BHP and Fortescue led the way, with increases of 46 and 22 per cent respectively, but several other stocks also delivered double-digit dividend gains.

South Korea’s stock market suffers biggest drop in history

amid US-Iran war

South Korea’s stock market has suffered its steepest fall in history amid the widening fallout of the United States-Israeli war on Iran.

The benchmark KOSPI index plummeted 12.06 percent on Wednesday, eclipsing the 12.02 percent single-day plunge triggered by the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/business/asian-markets-kospi-plunge-iran-war-mid...

The crisis has sent the price of oil surging more than 10 per cent this week, fanning inflation fears and raising concerns among export-dependent economies.

South Korea is the fourth-largest importer of crude oil in the world, according to US government figures. It relies almost totally on imports for its energy, with around 70 per cent of its oil imports coming from the Middle East.

The Korean Stock Exchange called a temporary trading halt on Wednesday morning after the Kospi and Kosdaq each plunged more than 8 per cent.

That's odd. It's not like they had no warning, which was the case in 2001. Our ASX closed at a record high on Monday afternoon - days after the war started in earnest. I was scratching my head wondering when it would come.
