My latest pupper is a Jack Russell, so it's sort of the best of both worlds. She's a "must touch" dog, as in she'll sit with us on the couch, or physically on us, yet still does all the dog things.

In her old age with her hearing declining, she's relying more and more on the alerts from Alexa when the security cameras detect motion at night, or the doorbell when the postman arrives, but she's still the Cheif Security Officer.

That said, my last dog was a German Shepherd, and while she was nearly 50kg, she thought she was a lapdog too...

I'll allow <10kg as a lapdog, but perhaps that's because my previous experience with the 50kg

Our Jack, she's about 7-8kg depending on how greedy she's been. We never wanted to show her, but she's got some pedigree and has a very muscular frame, so she's a dense and strong little champ, just in those years where she's starting to drop weight and slow down.

Although she almost caught a duck on our last walk around the lake, I didn't realise she still had those bursts of speed available.

Ah, ok, well that's entirely different.

As much as I love our furry family members, the humans have to come first.

We almost had to get rid of our Jack because we thought one of our kids was alergic to her when we got her as a puppy.

Thankfully it was just a coincidence, both in getting to keep our doggo but at least into adulthood, none of our kids had any allergies.

Both my wife and I were the same, but I had a bad reaction to an antibiotic once, but only the generic brand, which was scary. And now, not that I'm a big drinker, it seems I can't process beer like I used to and will sometimes go red if I drink it.

Thankfully it doesn't happen with Whiskey.

Live and learn.
