I know something about Freemasons.
It's basically a business organisation for rich people to get their projects done.

They have high level meetings between say:
a property developer,
a local council representative - the Mayor,
a banker supplying the borrowed money.

They close the deal in one sitting and bypass all the other red tape.
That's why rich people join up - to make money.
All the ceremonies are just bullshit that they go along with. Roll Eyes

Originally it did start sincerely as a form of 'Ceremonial' entertainment for people.
Of course, mostly rich people can afford such recreational fun on weekends, etc.

A lot of 'clubs' do become the gatherings of those who can afford them. As it wasn't a direct 'Charitable' organisation that relied on Government payments and grants - they basically had to fund it themselves and thus it had to attract the more wealthier to kick on.
Here, things like Marine Rescue, Mens & Women's Sheds, Community Sheds, CWA and more - are all 'charities' so to speak. If they are lucky to attract wealthy members who are happy to 'cash input' freely - then that's a bonus.

The Freemasons you could say, have succeeded by self-funding and the fringe benefit is that you are associating with wealthier people who in turn, can provide their own 'fringe benefit' trade with other members. There are many Freemasons who are not rich at all.

It's just another 'Social Club' that's all.
What would say, Marine Rescue be called if they just happened to have some very highly placed in society members? Would they be called 'Satanists', New World Order, etc?

My dearly departed dad was a Mason for just over 75 years
when he died, and you wouldn't find a more trustworthy bloke
on the planet.

Witless people love to take the piss out of the Masons, and
deride their ceremonies, and claim they're into devil worship
and all that crap, but there's never been any actual evidence.

When I did Taxi. I used to Maxi a guy in an electric wheelchair to the local Freemasons. Purely social for him. The guys were good to him n' all.
It was ceremonial fun for him, no different to the pomp and pageantry of Royals and Awards Ceremonies.
The 'secrecy' was no different than a 'need to know' basis of rising in rank in military, the Corporation, the Church and the Billboard Charts of music.

...I mean, it surely would beat just sitting inside a Copper Pyramid for fun. Wink
