Obviously, the talks were unsuccessful because the US has nothing to offer other than promising not to attack Iran.
Hawks wonder why the US doesn't attack Iran. There are a number of reasons:
US base in Iraq is vulnerable to massive retaliation
US base in Syria vulnerable
US base in Jordan vulnerable
All other M-E US bases are vulnerable
The Gulf states are terrified of a war because countries like the UAE and its ilk with 90% non-citizens would be subject to non-citizens leaving and not returning.
The UAE and its ilk couldn't flush the toilets without expats to run the infrastructure.
