Why?

A decade of the libtards hamstringing renewables and pushing coal is why

How much subsidy is paid to wind and solar? Who pays for that subsidy?  The consumers, through higher energy prices.  Energy prices were low and steady until the renewable subsidy craze started. There would be no investment in solar and wind without massive subsidies, paid by the consumers.

Hazelwood was a terrible power station.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hazelwood_Power_Station

We should have a built another coal fired power station and used the
low emission Anthracite coal from Queensland to run it
to tide us over till renewables were fully operating.
I hope we don’t get blackouts?

Only an idiot would say that

See if you can guess why no one wants to pay to build a coal fired power station?

It's a very intelligent idea.
It would have given us a buffer until renewables were fully installed and working properly.
Now we are in unknown territory.
China is building 100s of coal fire power stations - go figure?
We only needed one coal fired power station.

Smith,
your idiotic ideas have given us higher prices and will give us power blackouts.

In 2017:

On a per megawatt hour basis, solar received the largest subsidies with $214, followed by wind on $74, while other renewable sources received $33 per megawatt hour.
The report found subsidies to coal generation amounted to about 40 cents per megawatt hour, while generation from non-renewable sources overall were 30 cents per megawatt hour.
