People in cities are not having many children these days because of the cost of housing there. And they are mostly migrants. The rest of Australia are picking up the slack of breeding, because house prices are not overwhelming. And not many of regional and rural Australia are migrants.

bullsh1t, housing affordability in australia to some degree might be impacting fertility rates but for the most part fertility rates would be declining anyway because that's what they naturally do in developed industrialised states; japanese land prices have been declining for decades but so have japanese fertility levels

which is not actually a bad thing, the world can't sustain exponential population growth

"regional and rural" australia is only like 20%~ of the entire population lol

what fears were expressed in my initial post sorry ? seemed like a fairly matter of fact statement to me

If you seriously have trouble understanding the human mindset, then it would be difficult in understanding the issue of declining fertility rates in Australia. For one thing, women in modern Australia are more career focussed. They will put off having children whilst they are establishing their careers. And by the time they have done that, they are at an age of greatly reduced chance of conceiving. I could imagine that if they had children, they would have one or two at most.

In regional and rural Australia, there are traditionally higher rates of fertility. The careers of women are not too demanding. The cost of living is lower. There is plenty of room to expansion. So, we slowly grow our towns. But the thing about our towns is that they are not spoiled for jobs. That is why the young like to move to cities. It is that which accounts for part of the growth in cities. If cities did not have interregional or overseas migration, cities throughout Australia would probably be half the size they are now.

Your fears were that the majority of Australians would be migrants in the future. Funny, considering that the migrants have lower fertility rates than local Australians.
