I was thinking recently…. He did buy her plenty of drinks …. (was shown on cct) and he did take her to a remote area where no one was allowed but he had a key/pass….
What was he thinking?
She admitted she had never drank so much before and won’t ever again… but there’s always a first and if someone is being generous buying the drinks….
That drinking thing… it happened to me when I was 21…. The drinks just kept flowing and my glass kept being filled up and I drank without realising the effect it would have…
I was stunned how clumsy I felt and everything looked jittery …. I couldn’t even stand properly…
Lucky I was in safe company that didn’t take advantage but I never drank like that ever again!
In fact it’s a solid rule I only have 2 glasses and then switch to water or soft drinks.
I was 20 and top student at business college when I was offered a top secretarial job in Parliament House/Canberra (some may remember that famous secretary Ainslie Gotto?)
As I was in a fundraiser that year with the Apex club…and I just started courting my bf… and it meant leaving my home and friends behind… I had to think on this one.
I’m glad I never went! I was so green …. After hearing lately about all the sexual assault stuff going on.
You know I agree with you there - the point is that NONE of the legal niceties were followed until a feeble attempt a long time later, so there never was a case.
I totally agree that 'The Canberra Bubble' needs to be pierced, and that the culture of 'what happens in Canberra stays in Canberra' (view La Gotto) needs to be removed from the board... and that all of these people need to be properly brought under the umbrella of law and not permitted to run free like rabid dogs chasing bitches in the corridors.
I know how I 'feel' (and in this day and age of 'feelings trump everything' I use that warily) about Bruce The Spruce Goose and his intentions... but the reality is that there was NO evidence that anything like rape took place other than the confused complaint later by the complainant when she was confronted by her boss in a situation in which her 'career' as a temporary staffer was under review... meaning she had good reason to come up with something to save her ........ ass ........ and due to the legal niceties NOT being pursued by anyone, AND MOST PARTICULARLY THE COMPLAINANT AT THE TIME - there was always zero chance of a successful prosecution.
None of this has a single thing to do with any public view of Ms Higgins, which clearly had zero impact on any legal proceedings and even more clearly can never be misconstrued as some campaign against her - something that exists only in the fevered imaginations of the insane or the ideologically inclined who are truth challenged.
She may have FELT awkward and exposed in making her complaint so late and in pursuing it in several ways - but that cannot and will not translate into some 'torrent of abuse' directed at her - something that NEVER existed in the real world.
NOBODY did those things to her, and her feelings about pursuing this accusation are not in any way the responsibility of anyone else, no matter how she might 'feel' about it.
Did you know that over 90% of dog owners do not report being bitten by their dog, so as to avoid any suggestion that they, the victim of the bite, are actually responsible? There is a serious undercurrent tsunami of unreported dog bites in this society and culture and those afflicted are afraid to speak out!Word for today:-
'stunami' ... (n) a tidal wave of stupidly following some ideologue's baseless assertions
