Stupid rant? I might come home from a long walk and have a single beer to recover. But, people might as well be drinking water if they are just going to stop at one alcoholic drink. I am not saying that people don't stop at one drink. But I reckon millions more do drink more than one drink at a bar or at home. I only ever see people having one drink at a restaurant with their meals.
If ever I'm out and have to drive home, I have only one beer.... just to be on the safe side.
Why not just stay sober? If I am out and my way home is by car, I would not even risk one alcoholic drink. Eight years ago, I had a glass of wine with my meal at a pub. I waited an hour afterwards, playing the pokies, whilst I let my blood alcohol content subside. I went to ask the bartender if he had a breathalyzer to test whether I was under the limit. He told me that a glass of wine has little alcohol content after one drink and one hour that I would be only registering 0.01% BAC.
When I did delivery driving back 20 years ago, some customer offered me a New Year's Eve drink as a tip. I had my "Nah, better not" answer become a "Yeah, alright" as I drank a bourbon and cola he poured for me. Very next delivery, I get pulled over for a breath test. The officer asked when was my last drink. I told him "just over 5 minutes earlier". He asked if I wanted to risk the test, given the mouth alcohol that would still be present. I told him that I would drink my water and wash the alcohol out of my mouth. He gave me the breath test. Looked at the reading for a while. Said to me "Yeah, you're okay". Sent me on my way. I must have been just under the limit.
People who go out and have a drink with their meal, that is one thing. But going out, having to drive home, but still opting to drink, that is kind of weird to me.
