Is the justice system being influenced by revenge here.
Nope, I don't believe so. It's for blatantly and indiscriminately promulgating
erroneous and grossly offensive claims—from a witless purveyor of lies,
misrepresentations, and absurd conspiracy theories. With the—inexplicably
high(?!)—public profile that Jones enjoys, he must be seen to adhere to
acceptable standards of journalistic and societal ethics. Jones's reprehensible
activities are well worth condemnation and serious financial penalties.

It appears that the story of how we seek justice is now about destroying people to gain revenge. What is gained by completely crippling a person which is praised for its brutality.
Again, Jones's penalties are nothing to do with "revenge". Your implication
that the courts are handing down financial penalties merely as revenge is
unevidenced.

This is a lesson we are teaching our future generations, its no longer about rehabilitation, compassion and understanding but how to destroy.
The damages award against Jones has nothing to do with "rehabilitation",
nor is it an attempt to "destroy" the man. The financial penalty is aimed
at deterring him from continuing to broadcast blatant lies, and as retribution
for his claims about the school shootings—which caused grievous psychological
harm to the parents and siblings of the deceased school children.
That you seem to think that Jones deserves "compassion" for his vile activities
tells me you're either unaware of Jones's past and continuing history of malevolent
broadcasting, or that you don't understand to whom (in this case) compassion
should be shown.
