A father who raped his own three-year-old daughter has demanded to be placed in a women’s prison in Tasmania, prompting the state government to declare it has banned trans-identifying male prisoners from women’s prisons.

The pedophile, described by Tasmanian prison sources as “the worst of the worst”, set up a camera to record himself engaging in sex acts with the girl while he was dressed in women’s clothing.

Multiple applications by the inmate for transfer to a women’s prison have been refused by Deputy Premier, Attorney-General and Corrections Minister Guy Barnett, who has now ordered the state’s corrections service to give “absolute priority” to the safety of female prisoners.

“The presence of any male prisoner in a women’s prison would present unacceptable safety risks to female prisoners,” Mr Barnett told The Australian.

The Tasmanian government’s hard line comes amid mounting pressure on state governments to act after Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro last month became the first leader of any Australian jurisdiction to ban trans offenders from women’s prisons. That declaration came in the wake of revelations by The Australian that a father who sexually abused his five-year-old daughter is being held in a Victorian female correctional centre because he now identifies as a woman, and that several women in prison in South Australian have been attacked – and in at least one case sexually assaulted – by notorious trans inmate Krista Richards.





Men who pretend to be women ar deluded in a medical sense and many are also evil in a moral sense.

Those of us who have been treated badly are furious. I’m a psychotherapist, a wife and a mother of two living in rural Ireland. I had no wish to become consumed by a medical scandal that the media refused to confront. All I needed was for journalists to do their job and the truth would have surfaced. They didn’t.

If academics, doctors and clinicians had done theirs, we wouldn’t have needed journalists to expose the scandal. But they didn’t meet their responsibilities and, above all, the journalists failed to report what was happening.

There is still a long way to go. If the mainstream media try to ride this out without real accountability, the anger and distrust will grow – not because we are too harsh, but because the media refuse to face their role in this scandal.

The reluctance to act is, at its core, a failure of courage – and when truth-telling is part of the job, a failure of ethics. This failure has infected academia, journalism, education, law and medicine, and created the wider crisis we face today.

The Albanese government secretly intervened in international forums against the UN special rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem, over her support for women’s ­­sex-based rights, newly released documents suggest.

Obtained under freedom of ­information laws, the documents reveal the government’s handpicked ambassador for gender equality, Stephanie Copus Campbell, told an audience of public servants in September last year that Ms Alsalem had “taken a fairly difficult position on transgender rights in a way that doesn’t conform with our views”.

Ms Copus Campbell – whose term as ambassador ended in August, but was then a senior envoy in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – told the group “we are directly engaging through various different mechanisms” to deal with the concerns about Ms Alsalem.

The next part of the ambassador’s “fireside chat” was redacted from the transcript at the request of DFAT on the grounds that “its disclosure would, or could reasonably be expected to, cause damage to the international relations of the commonwealth”.

Ms Alsalem has taken a strong stand against trans activist ideology and an intervention by the federal government against her work would mark a turning point in its bid to keep out of the issue and spark a potentially embarrassing public spat with the UN.
