Sanctions against Russia not working - SWIFT
Feb 25th, 2022 at 4:26pm

SWIFT is an acronym for
the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications
and may also be referred to as a CIC code.

Biden keeps talking about sanctions against Russia -
but it's mostly nonsense.
If SWIFT was cut off then Europe couldn't get gas and oil so
it's not being cut off.
I believe so far that it's Germany and Italy refusing
to cut off SWIFT.

EU unlikely to cut Russia off SWIFT for now

Reuters, Brussels
Fri Feb 25, 2022 12:00 AM Last update on: Fri Feb 25, 2022 02:36 AM

The European Union is unlikely at this stage to take steps to cut Russia off from the SWIFT global interbank payments system as it works on a new package of sanctions against Moscow for its action against Ukraine, several EU sources said.

The foreign ministers of the Baltic states, once ruled from Moscow but now members of NATO and the EU, called on Thursday to stop Russia's access to SWIFT.

Other EU member states are reluctant to make such a move because, while it would hit Russian banks hard, it would make it tough for European creditors to get their money back and Russia has in any case been building up an alternative payment system.

"Urgency and consensus is utmost priority at the moment," said an EU diplomat.

The Germans and the Italians have already rejected it.
SWIFT will continue - Putin will continue.
After Ukraine comes  Poland - the gateway into Western Europe.

In a press conference earlier this month, Vladimir Putin noted that the Ukrainian government does not like the Minsk agreement and then added: “Like it or not, it’s your duty, my beauty.”

The saying has well-known sexual connotations: Putin appeared to be quoting from “Sleeping Beauty in a Coffin” by the Soviet-era punk rock group Red Mold: “Sleeping beauty in a coffin, I crept up and f**ked her. Like it, or dislike it, sleep my beauty.”

Although the Kremlin press representative claimed that Putin referred to an old folkloric expression, reference to Ukraine as an object of necrophilia and rape is clear. Back in 2002, Putin replied to a Western’s journalist’s question with: “If you want to become a complete Islamic radical and are ready to undergo circumcision, then I invite you to Moscow. We are a multidenominational country. We have specialists in this question [circumcision]. I will recommend that they carry out the operation in such a way so that afterward, nothing else will grow” — a rather vulgar threat of castration.
...
All of us from countries which have to witness the sad affair of Ukraine’s rape should be aware that only a real castration prevents rape. So we should recommend that the international community carries out a castrative operation on Russia — ignoring and marginalizing them as much as possible, making it sure that afterwards, nothing else will grow of their global authority.

I wonder if the neo-marxist Slavoj Zizek has a solution to the problem that Russia won't just go away.

Putin has imprisoned or executed his political rivals. And had his tenure as president extended indefinitely. In a sense he is worse than the CCP because they actually produce stuff for the rest of world. With the capture of coastal Ukraine the Black Sea becomes a Russian lake. Recently, he made deals with Turkey, which is under an Islamist dictatorship. With the coast of Syria friendly to Putin, this situation makes the eastern Mediterranean Sea a sphere of Russian naval influence with no opposition other than Allied fleets a long way from home. Does the Australian Left still condemn Israel as Putin's navy moves toward the Suez Canal?

So now the story has completely changed.
Before it was definitely happening and now it's not.

The West could still kick Russia
out of SWIFT as the 'last resort'

By Charles Riley, CNN Business

Updated 1207 GMT (2007 HKT) February 25, 2022

The United States and the European Union held back from cutting Russia off from SWIFT, a high security messaging network that connects thousands of financial institutions around the world, after failing to agree on a step that some have called the "nuclear option." It would damage Russia but also big economies in Europe.
Ukraine appealed for Russia to be removed from SWIFT after President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion on Thursday. The call from Kyiv was backed by Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and the United Kingdom but other European countries resisted.

US President Joe Biden told reporters on Thursday that depriving Russia of access to SWIFT is "always an option." But, he added, "right now, that's not the position that the rest of Europe wishes to take."

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the measure could still be adopted as the "very last resort." It is "one of the options that remains on the table," he told journalists ahead of a meeting of EU finance ministers.
Germany, which relies on Russian gas to power the largest economy in Europe, is the most notable holdout. Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who earlier this week won praise for halting certification of a new Russian natural gas pipeline, has come under withering criticism at home.

"SWIFT is our sharpest sword," Christian Democratic Union lawmaker Norbert Röttgen said Thursday on Twitter. "The SWIFT exclusion of Russia must not fail now because of Germany!''
The German government said such a move would require careful preparation.
''A suspension of SWIFT would ... have a massive impact on payments in Germany and for German companies doing business with Russia but also to settle energy supply payments — that all would have to be well prepared,'' Steffen Hebestreit told reporters.

Boris Johnson and Biden just made stuff up.
They both said that by tomorrow SWIFT
would stop all transactions with Russia.
It was just for a nightly news sound grab to sound tough.
It was all bullshit -
they had never consulted the European leaders.

The sanctions will do the most damage to Germany and the rest of Europe.
Their primary goal is to prevent the greatest nightmare of the Anglobrotherhood, or as they call it, the "Devil's Trinity", which is the Beijing-Moscow-Berlin alliance.
That is why it is necessary to keep Germany and the rest of continental Europe under Anglo-occupation.
