I gave up caring about the quality of my kitchen tap water, seeing that I use bottled water for drinking. Used the hot water out of the kitchen tap for the first time tonight.

I have filters on my water ( drinking water, not all water)
Biological, particulate and contaminants ( such as lead, copper, tin etc)
I change the filters annually.
The filtered water has no taste.

I opened one filter once, and the black stain is still on my garage floor.
The stink was unbelievable, a sewage smell.
This was the water straight from the tap and the crap captured by the filter.

I had an issue with my tap water to a point that I had to get filtered jugs. From one jug, I had to buy another jug to filter the tap water twice. I tried to use tap water and double filter that water. But, the water is too difficult to drink after double filtering that I went to bottled water. I use the hot water system (that needs replacing or a clean out) for showering only. And that leaves my back feeling like I have had a hot shower in mildly chlorine pool water.

2 questions -

1. You can afford to buy bottled water all the time for drinking?

2. Do you only eat take aways?  As it seems you don't do any washing up.

I know where you come from.
I changed all door handles in my in-laws home and mine to lever type.
All my taps are ceramic 1/4 turn
The mixer in the shower is temp controlled so it's impossible to be burned.

I have security rails in the bathrooms and shower.

And I remodelled my shower so that there is a larger area and no step into the shower.

Gradually I am making my house invalid friendly.
My wife had her knees replaced 5 years ago and it opened my eyes to how hard some things are for the elderly or infirm.
With this in mind, and the fact that my wife's family have serious arthritic issues in later in life.
All that remains is that I need to put some ramps at the back door to eliminate the three steps.

Good thinking valkie.
Most of our taps are now 1/2 turn lever ceramics.
In the future I could see a bathroom remodelling with some degree of mobility assistance in mind..

We have a highset house. It has wooden floors and we like it here.
The stairs are a great exercise. We thought if it gets too hard for us to walk up the stairs get one of those 2 person elevators installed.

After her operation my wife struggled to climb the three steps at the back door.
Even lifting her legs over the 4 inch hub in the shower was almost impossible.

With the mother in law having several falls in the shower, as subsequently making it near impossible to get her out.
I decided rails and large flat areas were the go.

The taps and temp controls were an afterthought.
When she fell in her shower, she knocked her tap to cold, hate to think what would have happened if it had been hot.

We should always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
