Detectives investigating the murder of underworld crime figure Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad say his shooting was a “meticulous assassination” involving a long list of potential suspects.
Ahmad, who was gunned down in Sydney’s southwest last night, was well known to police after he was sentenced to five years jail for the manslaughter of another underworld figure in 2016.
Ahmad, 39, received multiple gunshot wounds after leaving the house of an associate on Narelle Crescent in Greenacre on Wednesday night.
Ahmad received multiple warnings from NSW Police – including a door knock last week – about the imminent plot to kill him.
“Brownie’’ was best known as the brother of Walid “Wally” Ahmad who was shot dead at Bankstown Centro Shopping Centre in 2016, which triggered an underworld war that claimed at least four lives.
He was only released from jail six months ago – after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Safwan Charbaji in 2016 – and immediately became a target.
Ahmad’s death is set to reignite the log-running feud between the notorious Alameddine and Hamzy clans of Sydney – which claimed at least seven lives in the past 18 months, and was believed to be quelled after recent arrests.
Plain clothed detectives were seen outside a large white rendered home with multiple security cameras. Two young men
dressed in active wear (

) who told police they were family members pleaded with officers to let them through to the house.
They were turned away when they were unable to produce proof of ID and lashed out verbally at reporters.
“You’re in my personal space … you’ve got grey hair bro,” one of the men said, appealing to police to intervene when questioned by reporters.
