Umbrellas
Mar 22nd, 2021 at 2:59pm

When I was a kid I thought by the age I am now, we'd all be whizzing around in flying cars with video communications devices on our wrists. OK so one of them came true.

My gripe today is with umbrellas.
What's an umbrella? Basically a rag on a stick that you hold above your head invented circa 1000BC.

Screw the flying car, I want a personal water repelling force-field that keeps the water off you when you go for a walk.

Society has FAILED.

Who f*ucking uses an umbrella in this country?
A real Australian learns to enjoy the rain and a good soaking. A warm shower in the far north, to a spritely cold one in the south.
Rain keeps the grey hairs and droughts away.
Umbrellas are best only for the Hot over-bearing blazing Sun.
Cheesy

About time someone invented an umbrella that didn't blow inside out (which usually ruins it) in anything more than a gentle breeze.

You need to buy better umbrellas.

I had one of these, but lost it.

So long as you always have your hand at the top of the stick and always point it into the wind, it works fine.

usually people put their back into the wind as they open a brolly.
The brolly fills with wind and it breaks.
Point the brolly into the wind, it is usually ok.

Sometimes I use one hand low on the brolly handle, the other hand higher up in the brolly stem to hold it stable

I ignored this topic for so long, thinking it a stupid rant. But, you beat me to that answer here by one month. Rain is so uncommon in this part of the country that when it pours down, you are either under shelter or you are pretty close to one. Last month, I walked around in the misty rain on one of my walks. If I was out in the rain by accident, I would not try to find shelter unless it was pouring down.

I always do some gardening in the rain if I get the chance. Makes weeding real easy. Good time to plant seed.

Those Bunnings hats double as a good umbrella.

I have a Bunnings umbrella. I wonder if it doubles as a good hat?
