Oh, dearie, dearie, me.  The islands are still subject to Australian law, they remain territorially part of Australia.  The Chinese can't hook up some boats and sail them back to China.  It is just an investment.  They put money into Australia's economy, exactly as the the British, the Americans and the Japanese have done in the past.  They expect some return for their investment.  They don't want to stop people visiting their destinations.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

You are selling things to the chinaman that they would never ever sell to you simply because you have nothing else of value to sell to them !!

Their money is the same colour and shape as everybody else's money.  Tsk, tsk.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Try buying the same things from them with the same color money and see how far you get Wink Only losers sell off the farm tsk tsk Wink

Funny, you remain silent on the UK/US/Japan buying Australian "farms".  Is it because their money is coloured the right colour or has the right shaped eyes?  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

They simply are not as dangerous to stability in this region - a far bigger picture - though I agree with your basic picture that leasing only should be the norm, and foreign ownership should be banned.

How much land do you own in China, Brian?

Here is a chart and discussion:-

https://www.farmweekly.com.au/story/7067765/how-much-aussie-farmland-is-foreign-...

... and let us be aware - there is a vast difference between prime and sub-prime and marginal land..... guess which is most foreign owned.

You must always consider the fine print..... later - in our second half lesson, we will look at 'ownership' of water rights = water and the utter wastage this causes.

What is the sound of one hand clapping itself around the throat of a river system?

Well in the case of Keswick Island which were discussing in detail, they only hold a lease on the land on the Island yet according to the Xenophobes, we have sold them the rights to the land.   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

13% is a marginal amount of land - owned by a combination of Chinese, UK, Dutch, American and Canadian companies and individuals.  Yet we hear nothing about the UK/Dutch/American/Canadian companies or individuals - why?  Is it because people here fear the "Yellow Peril"?  Oh, dearie, dearie, me.  Tsk, tsk, who'd have thunk it?   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Indeed - and some on that island hold freehold....... their own bought and paid for home..... ergo - leasehold does not supercede their rights, and the ball-less government should say so in no uncertain terms instead of being the gutless self-serving scum they are in reality.  Sh1t-scared of 'upsetting' the new tyrants and having to fight a long legal battle that should have been avoided if they'd set up the lease agreement and terms correctly in the first place.

You can bet these gormless dicks signed some agreement just like the outgoing conservatives did in Malbadishu, over that road scheme - that if the deal was canceled, their mates would receive billions for not doing the pharken work....

That's what your 'governments' do these days.... make sure their mates can cop it from the public purse one way or the other, and even better if they can make the incoming government look bad for having to pay out all that money for work not done.  I'd be looking for a brown paper bag trail.

What is the word from the Pale-Ass-Chick 'government' on this issue?  Anyone?

But what are a few malcontents living the good life on some isolated island, eh?  In 99 years their oppressors will be gone, so can't they just take it up the bum for a teeny weeny while and forget their silly ideas of an easy and idyllic life for the greater good of Queensland for a while?

FFS.... Real Rights To The People NOW!  Plebiscites To The People NOW!

The head lessee is China Bloom, a 99yr lease it may as well have been a 1000yr lease,, and try getting it back then!

87% of the island is national park which the Chinks have blocked off.

Locals have to upgrade their properties to Chink standards or leave.

The air strip and moorings were and probably still are shut down. ETC.

They want AUSSIES OUT

Bloody hilarious how the premiers of the islands in WA and QLD knew NOTHING about these selloffs to the Chinaman.

Where is FIRB on all of this.

Yellow Proverb
Black Man, Yellow Man and White Man in the Oven of the Gods.
Black Man at the back of the oven gets too burnt and over-cooked. White Man at front of oven - not cooked enough.
Yellow Man in the middle cooked golden just right.

(true Chinese saying).

Yellows love watching the Blacks and Whites kill each other off like Yin/Yang - while they move in playing dumb to it.

As far as I am aware, all land on the island is leased, not freehold.  It appears some leaseholders believe they control the island when the Chinese are the prime leaseholders. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
