Because a person is 'economically and socially deprived', that doesn't give them [or anyone else] a 'licence' to engage in criminality.
People who say that have actually never been economically or socially deprived.
No.
It is about trying to deter LAWLESSNESS [with equality of application of law], within a national jurisdiction.
In my case, as the person who is saying that [in my post above], ....i believe that there should be ONE LAW applied to all persons in a society of men.
I don't want to see 'discriminatory practices' applied in favour of, or against, ...any particular group, when it comes to 'outcomes' delivered, from a national justice system.
That would be insane, imo.
Auggie,
SCENARIO;
What if aboriginal people made all of the laws within Australia, and what if aboriginal people wanted the national justice system, to deliver [conviction] sentences against anyone NOT having aboriginal ethnicity, to be DOUBLE the penalty ?
Why would such a [discriminatory] sentencing regime be wrong ? duh !!
If a justice system such as the one above, were in place, it would be obvious to many, as to why such a sentencing regime would be un-just to non-aboriginal people !
And it would be obvious to many, why all laws, within a nation, should be applied equally, to every person who was charged with committing a criminal offence, within a national jurisdiction.
There cannot be, 'special' rules, for 'special' groups of people [in national laws], otherwise that would allow a discriminatory application of law/justice within a nation to be in place.
Dictionary;
discrimination = =
1 the action of discriminating against people.
2 recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another. good judgement or taste.
