Conviction quashed.   Acquitted.

Yes.  Good decision.

A "conviction quashed" or "acquittal" on appeal - is by no means a ruling of INNOCENT

It is a finding of guilt not proven "beyond reasonable doubt"

If Pell were found to be innocent "beyond reasonable doubt" - the prime prosecution witness would be now facing charges of perjury

Conviction quashed means he is not guilty according to law.

Not at ALL
Pell was found guilty. by a jury of his peers
He had his first appeal rejected
His conviction was quashed by the High Court on a legal technicality of "guilt not proven beyond reasonable doubt"

At no point in the High Court's statement of findings will you find the words "innocent" or "not guilty"

Let's remember, the High Court is not a panel of infallible "gods"
It was them that confirmed Lindy Chamberlain guilty of murder on her final appeal

Years later she was pardoned - on the finding of that chewed and torn matinee jacket - at the base of Uluruii

I dont know I do not recall the royal.....what I do know is RISDALE got 29 years... and if pell confessed he knew about his activities.....he could still be charged with aiding and abetting... there is no time limit on Royal Comm findings they do swear an oath....... so why hasnt he been charged by the police???????

thats all I am asking..

I do recall, Pell supported Risdale, not the victims. In this context the question of whether Pell got charged or not is irrelevant, he is still a reprehensible human being who deserves to hang. We know Pell supported the pedophiles, its on record and he does not deny it, so why are you going all out to support him? What is in your mind to argue for and offer support to this disgusting human being?

This is that merry go round thing again, there is only guilty or not guilty, there are no halfway in-betweens.

Its been 4yrs since the RC, if the cops had anything on Pell they would have nabbed him as soon as he walked from Alkatraz.

Well - what did he DO or SAY to support Risdale?  Did he actively support his activities or did he say it was covered by the sanctity of the confessional?

These are two totally different things.

My view - as I said about Young Hastie - is that if you are the Boss (you don't get that title without earning it), you say it like it is, for right or wrong.

You don't:- "Aw, shucks, I was in a chopper at the time"  - when your man is accused of wrongdoing in removing a terrorist's hand for fingerprint ID, which is SOP in extremis.

By the same token, you do not say - "Oh, I know that guy was unarmed, and the Trooper shot him without abiding by the rules of engagement - but I chose to sweep it under the carpet."

For those of you up in the air about SAS engagements in Afghanistan - and Pell - the same rules apply... you do what is Right in the circumstances, and if you know wrong was done, you say so - you don't just "Aw, shucks".... and you don't hang your man out to dry for following SOP in extremis, either.  You OWN your position - that's what leadership is about, even when it hurts.

If Pell was aware of wrongdoing, he should have acted positively, not allowed the sanctity of the confessional to cover the deeds..... but until he is charged with that, and indeed until laws are created to make this an offence and it is proven to the proper standard - he bears no guilt to date.

And this is what Pell said about Risdales pedophile activities
Quote:
In an admission which drew gasps in the Sydney hearing room, the Cardinal said he didn't have "much interest" in complaints about Ridsdale.

"I didn't know whether it was common knowledge or whether it wasn't," he said. "It's a sad story and it wasn't of much interest to me."
https://www.smh.com.au/national/cardinal-george-pell-blames-former-bishop-for-letting-abuse-fester-20160301-gn71uj.html
The abuse of children not of much interest to Pell, but he certainly had plenty of interest in standing by the pedophile in court.
