2 degrees at 6 am this morning. That was enough justification to leave the heater on from midnight last night. Bifenthrin candles burning under the house. Somewhere around the country must have been struggling with colder weather, because the usually colder areas in southern states seem to be warmer.

Down to 3-4 here at night sometimes  - snow in them thar hills... but curled up in bed is warm.  Down south one night our thermometer measured -8 and one day it was colder there than in Antarctica... nothing to worry about.  I'm thinking of heading back to the real snow country... love the air.

Funny isn't it how mid and even nth NSW gets colder than Sydney at night.

I was in Mackay, doing some consultation work in the mines a few years ago.
It required me to drive up to a mining camp near Goonyella.

Driving along the road not 15k from Goonyella, I glanced at the dash temp gauge, it hit -1°
This is in Queensland, inland mind, but still Queensland.

I guess there is always somewhere you don't expect the cold, but it's there.
When I left Mackay at 2200 hours, it was 25° .

I do not expect much about the Queensland coast in terms of being cold during the winter. 25 degrees at 10pm in Mackay is roughly typical of summer night weather. I was experiencing an 18 degree night the other week before the temperatures dropped again. When I checked the temperatures for the region, we saw that Mount Morgan was -1 during our cold night. Mount Morgan is 100km inland from the coast. Rockhampton is 40km inland from the coast. The issue is that places inland experience colder winter nights because of the lack of heat retention with the lack of humidity in the air. I have read that Longreach and Birdsville, both hot regions of the state, have colder winter nights on average. Some guy working in or near the mines 500km west-northwest of me said that winter nights can get as low as -5. Not that difficult to work out when you have cold dry air being blown in from the south and southwest as a result of an east coast low off of NSW.

In a month's time, I will be in Sth Qld for the purpose of visiting relatives. I have come accustomed to the idea that it warms up in Rockhampton in the later period of July each year -- but is still reasonably cool. Mum urged me to get some tracksuit pants, as my idea of wearing jeans will not suffice in keeping out the cold. I have a jacket, a neck warmer, gloves, a beany. But that is for keeping myself warm in times when the nights get below 10 degrees.

If southern Qld can get so cold in July, I can imagine that northern NSW can be even colder than coastal Sydney. I think you can state that the dividing range is a factor in the elevation of northern NSW. And being west of the dividing range would influence how cold it gets.

The warmest summer day in Antarctica is about 10 degrees. I think that is typical of some areas of coastal Antarctica in the summer. For the winter, you would not see a day over freezing point anywhere. Mawson station is currently -20 degrees (right this moment).

Human activity tends to create warmth.. the more people the warmer.  Had some good snow in the Barringtons recently and the bloody road was blocked by the heavy rains and still not open - still a cold wind today with sunny skies.... temperatures near the coast are more even... when it's dry country the heat and cold are extreme.  Ask TS Lawrence about the desert...

Where are you located? I was doing a review of the rainfall in Australia.

A great many can speak through them too, there are even those that are quite adept at it and seem to prefer to.

2 facts we know about the nun.

2: She lies

Oh? People here are saying you're a naughty old racist, dear.

Care to deny it?

Do you also believe in levitation as often reported by Buddhists and Hindus? While we're breaking the laws of thermodynamics we may as well go after gravity.
