Apparently Perisher is opening a week early due to good snow falls. I'm loving this cooler weather, especially while the ocean is still about 20.

Melbourne's cold May day Ben Domensino, Wednesday May 29, 2019 - 16:23 EST Melbourne endured its coldest May day in 19 years on Wednesday. The temperature at Melbourne's Olympic Park weather station had only reached a top of 10.6 degrees by 4pm on Wednesday. If this maximum temperature isn't exceeded by 9am on Thursday, this will have been the city's coldest May day since 2000. The mid-week chill is being caused by a large pool of cold air from the Southern Ocean passing across Victoria. In addition to this wintry air mass, cloud and showers also limited warming in Melbourne on Wednesday. The air was even cold enough for snow to fall in Ballarat on Wednesday afternoon. |

Southern Queensland towns record coldest May morning. Several May temperature records have been broken with a winter blast hitting southern Queensland overnight. Applethorpe, Oakey and Dalby have all had their coldest May mornings on record. The temperature plummeted to -6.1 in Applethorpe, –2.1 degrees below its previous record 13 years ago. Oakey near Toowoomba dropped to -4.4, which was 0.3 of a degree cooler than its previous record in 2006. Dalby on the Western Downs had its coldest morning since 1911, recording -3.6. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Gabriel Branescu said it was milder in the state's south-east. "In Brisbane, while it was 8 degrees this morning, with the chill factor it felt like less than five degrees," he said. "The feel like temperature at the airport in Brisbane was -1. |

BOM has just released its monthly weather review and it was officially Australia's hottest March on record. Blair Trewin, senior climatologist at the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), said March was a continuation of what we saw over summer in a lot of ways. Not only was it the hottest March, but it has also been the hottest start to the year on record. By a lot. "We're still getting the occasional cool months but the frequency of record warm months and seasons has gone up quite substantially in the last decade or so with the background long-term warming," he said. "Whilst we've seen a particularly extreme few months, the background warming trend we see in Australia, as we do globally, is in the order of 0.1 to 0.2 of a degree per decade. "Projections are that that's expected to continue at least at that rate," he said. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-01/2019-hottest-march-on-record-in-australia/10959828 *of course lee, bobby, Malcolm Roberts and Andrew Bolt are aware of the BoM, the MET, IPCC and NASA are all in cahoots in fudging the figures - along with the use of "chemtrails" - to deliver "one world government" |

Wind direction: 4km/h ESE at 9pm. 11km/r from the South at 9:30pm. Keep in mind that Rockhampton can get easterlies and have a pleasant winter night. But southerlies and winds coming south-west of us would mean that we get cold nights, no matter when between May and August. |

Snow falls in Blue Mountains as NSW warns
'Antarctic winds' will bring extreme weather https://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/snow-falls-in-blue-mountains-as-nsw-warns-antarctic-winds-will-bring-extreme-weather/530057 By Kevin Nguyen and Michelle Brown, Saturday August 10, 2019 - 09:39 EST ABC image Snowfall on a street in Leura, near Katoomba, this morning. - ABC Residents just 90 minutes out of Sydney have woken up to fresh snowfall this morning, and the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is forecasting a weekend of extreme winter conditions. Erica Mann, who moved to Blackheath in the Blue Mountains from the sandy shores of Coogee in Sydney's eastern beaches, was ecstatic to find fresh white powder falling in her garden. She said it was the most snow she had seen there yet. "I opened the curtains and I could see a huge amount of snow on top of the water tank — it was so exciting," she said. "It's amazing. I went up the street … and all the houses are completely covered in snow." She said the snow was deep enough for her dog Missy to leave paw prints. "The funny thing is she came back really briskly," she said. Yesterday, destructive winds battered south-east Australia, causing chaos at airports, tearing roofs off buildings and causing a tree to fall onto a car, . The BOM has warned NSW to brace itself for "Antarctic winds", blowing from south of Tasmania, bringing damaging winds and plummeting temperatures. "The winds we saw yesterday are extending further north today and will remain strong and gusty throughout the weekend," BOM spokesperson Craig Ryan said. "There's a possibility of damaging winds up through the Hunter, through the Southern Tablelands, Illawarra and the higher parts of the south coast, west of Bega." Mr Ryan said there was a possibility wind speeds could exceed 90kph in these regions, but conditions were expected to ease into the evening. |

Used the windscreen wiper for 3 mins today. Been a very dry winter in this region. the Kangaroos are everywhere on the lawns and sporting fields, golf courses as society provides better and more 'grasses'. the Reindeer must be doing it tough still out in the wild 'bush'. Heaps of Lyrebirds around though and some local got donked on the head by a Koala that fell from a tree in the wind (must have fell asleep on gum-leaf overdose and dropped from the branch of evolution). They can kill you know. Just like Coconuts in the islands.
I love the cold. People wear some cool clothes in winter. Ironically, conceptions are higher in winter months. You would think Summer would be with scantly clad men and women walking around. Maybe we aren't as sexually attractive as we think we are and need 'more' fashion to help us out? :D |

Title: Re: Cold Post by .JaSin. on Aug 18th, 2019 at 9:02pm
Yes. I try to enjoy the seasons as much for what they are. I prefer cold over hot, as I am mostly very physically active for my type of work. I've walked around on cold days without a shirt (my long hair like a scarf though) just to enjoy it more so a bit. Everest base camp was way colder (our team got halfway up, but had to cancel due to safety concerns like atrocious weather coming for a very long time. We were not 'fool' climbers).
I do like Autumn-like months the most. Clear skies, high clouds, great diving viz, cool breezes and a my lawns covered in leaves which I allow my neighbours to clean up after they have cleared theirs and have mine blow onto theirs. Leaf-Fall, is like Snow-Fall on the lawn - really nice to see. |

Here's the irony.
Any form of alcohol, even wines - makes you hotter in summer, regardless if it is 'chilled' before you drink it. Any form of smoking makes you colder in winter. You see the smokers huddled in their little tight groups around the little warm flames on their cigarettes. Australians in the hot outback drinking 'chilled' beers... ::) |

I hit the bag for 1/2 hour every second day and run through a couple of Kata when I'm not hitting the bag. Since retiring last year I have lost 4 holes on my belt, but only 9kg in weight. The quack says its normal to build muscle at first, and as I build more muscle I'll burn more fat and get even fitter. My sedentary lifestyle while working is going to take a while to fix, but I'm hoping in time to get back at least some of the fitness I had while doing martial arts. But I'm sleeping better and the aches and pains are all from good old hard work. But it's still bloody cold. |

I swim in a pool where I swim, they keep the temp around 18 deg, winter and summer. It's perfect, if a little cool at first. But as you warm up, it keeps the body comfortable. When it gets over 22, my skin tingles because my body isn't comfortable. It also helps with those damn lane hogs that hold up everyone by standing around at each end. They cool down and either have to swim or get out. I'm not a fast swimmer, 50-55 seconds a lap (50 metre pool) And tumble turns are slower due to my back. I use a centre line snorkel to help with the bursitis. My only complaint is that, even after a shower at the pool and one when I get home, the chlorine smell stays with me all night. |

I never see temperatures this low until well after I have been in bed. 6am mornings see that temperature. My sister will be shivering her arse off in south Qld. 4.4 degrees where they are now.

Warmer in Melbourne than it is in Rockhampton. But that is only by 3 degrees. Raining in Melbourne. It rained 10 mm last night when I went for a walk. Good rain but felt more than 10 mm.

When overseas, I noted that I was never really cold. In places like Amsterdam, Sweden, Finland, England, Canada and others, all had central heating builty into their homes. They had their homes running 24/7 and you generally only wore light clothing inside. Before going outside you rugged up with all manner of warm clothing, but inside, never cold. Australia is different, we generally trend toward cooling rather than heating because we dont see the severe cold as do other countries. We rarely leave our heating on at night, so its always cold getting up in the morning. Our homes are not as well insulated either. Overseas they have walls, floors and ceilings are insulated and all windows double glazed. its all about how we prepare. |

The incidence is lower in Asian and European diets and even larger in the American population. Possibly due to fast food, fat and other unhealthy diet choices. Fasting either deliberate or through lack of food is beneficial in moderation and is recommended by many religious recommendations. Under control with a good diet, moderate intake and intake of probiotics reduces any symptoms to the point that it's never really experienced. One attack was enough for me. I myself have met a woman who lives on herbal tea. True story, all checked.
She's a yogi nun. Doesn't eat. I know people she stayed with - all observed, not made up. She's an Austrian doctor, found yoga, became a nun. She lives, as it were, not by bread, but by every word of God. Not by choice either, who would bother? She just turned off food - no longer necessary. Bile, dear, is also an excess of passion, of greed. Take away the hunger, and you may also take away the bile. It works both ways. Waste not, want not. Want not, waste not. Trust me, I'm a melancholic. We have no cause to lie. |

Perhaps, but some of the witnesses themselves have had scientific training. They're as perplexed as anybody else. There are historical accounts of breatharians, just as there are accounts of stigmata and other unworldly phenomena. None of those who discussed this nun's food intake are into breatharianism, including myself. I'm more interested in their observations of nirvakalpa samadhi, the "breathless, deathless" state. This, the final goal of yoga, has been observed. No pulse, no breath, no heartbeat. I've spoken to those who saw doctors test such a yogi and declared him physically dead - much harder to live without breath than food. This yogi subsequently came to, I'm told, after nearly an hour. I have no faith, but yet, I believe. Thus, your hypothesis is UnFoUnDed. And so it is. |

I do not expect much about the Queensland coast in terms of being cold during the winter. 25 degrees at 10pm in Mackay is roughly typical of summer night weather. I was experiencing an 18 degree night the other week before the temperatures dropped again. When I checked the temperatures for the region, we saw that Mount Morgan was -1 during our cold night. Mount Morgan is 100km inland from the coast. Rockhampton is 40km inland from the coast. The issue is that places inland experience colder winter nights because of the lack of heat retention with the lack of humidity in the air. I have read that Longreach and Birdsville, both hot regions of the state, have colder winter nights on average. Some guy working in or near the mines 500km west-northwest of me said that winter nights can get as low as -5. Not that difficult to work out when you have cold dry air being blown in from the south and southwest as a result of an east coast low off of NSW. |

Mum urged me to get some tracksuit pants, as my idea of wearing jeans will not suffice in keeping out the cold. I have a jacket, a neck warmer, gloves, a beany. But that is for keeping myself warm in times when the nights get below 10 degrees. If southern Qld can get so cold in July, I can imagine that northern NSW can be even colder than coastal Sydney. I think you can state that the dividing range is a factor in the elevation of northern NSW. And being west of the dividing range would influence how cold it gets. |

The warmest summer day in Antarctica is about 10 degrees. I think that is typical of some areas of coastal Antarctica in the summer. For the winter, you would not see a day over freezing point anywhere. Mawson station is currently -20 degrees (right this moment). |

Human activity tends to create warmth.. the more people the warmer. Had some good snow in the Barringtons recently and the bloody road was blocked by the heavy rains and still not open - still a cold wind today with sunny skies.... temperatures near the coast are more even... when it's dry country the heat and cold are extreme. Ask TS Lawrence about the desert... |

Do you also believe in levitation as often reported by Buddhists and Hindus? While we're breaking the laws of thermodynamics we may as well go after gravity. |
