What Karnal wants us to believe is that the immutable laws of physics are being suspended for this one individual.
For the body to maintain about 37c and not waste away a minimum of 1000 calories is required. It's a very simple case of energy in, energy out. If she's not eating, how are these calories delivered? Some invisible energy stream?
Karnal says she's been observed, maybe so but the key here is observed by who and under what conditions. If by members of her religious organisation, that doesn't cut it.
In closing, I'll hand over to Mr Sagan.

It promotes maintaining a balanced diet according to Vedic principles - no onions or garlic, no drinking after meals, chewing each bite carefully before swallowing, etc, etc, etc. As the saying goes, dear, eat your water, drink your food.
Indians are obsessed with food.
But as one ascends upon the Path, lifestyles, interests and metabolisms change. Not all lose an interest in food. No true yogi broadcasts these changes to anyone but their teacher. Self promotion would only undo all the work you've done.
Yes, there are those who promote their magical powers, but they get stunted and stuck, or worse, fall. People with such powers keep them to themselves, or they soon find themselves losing them.
The nun I've mentioned has no need not to eat. All the ashrams and households serve food. I've seen her at mealtimes zipping around, filling up her water bottle or doing chores. She sits near the monks when they eat, and helps clean up afterwards.
But she
never discusses it.
