Western Australia's south-west received an unexpected surprise on Good Friday, with snowfall on Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges.

A flurry was recorded on the peak, the highest point in the Stirling Ranges, about 100 kilometres north of Albany, after 2:00pm on Friday.

It is the earliest recorded snow event in a calendar year in the state's history.

The last recorded fall before this time was April 20, 1970, according to Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) records.

Dozens of hikers made the trek up the 1099-metre tall Bluff Knoll on Friday, which generally records light snow a couple of times each winter but rarely in April.

Individual weather events generally are not necessarily an indicator of global warming.

However one of the expected symptoms of global warming is an increase in unexpected weather conditions.

So this event could possibly be an indication of global warming but not necessarily.

Maybe this happening is an event with a 50 year probability ?

Or 100 years, or 10,000 years.

Moreover, it's only unexpected when you look at a calendar.

Take away that man-made aspect, and it's not unexpected at all.

Possible but no more likely than any of the other possibilities, we are going into a short cooling period.

It's hard to know for sure.
Scientists get around it by saying that most
of the extra heat is absorbed by the ocean.
This means that ocean temperatures are more important than land temperatures.
To me that sounds like an excuse for the global cooling we're seeing
especially the record low temperatures on land.
