Their natural diet is fairly varied, including fish, seals, whales, turtles, birds, other sharks and rays, dolphins, sea otters etc. We are only 'not their natural food' to the extent they cannot 'naturally' get to us.

18ft, 50yrs old and pregnant, kill this monster.

Kill it?
What for? Food? If so then I understand.
Or
Because it has been programed into the heads of stupid people that sharks are deliberately chasing down humans and killing them.....farqorrf.
More dumbarse humans die in cars every day yet I bet you have one in the garage.

They are awesome machines and I have a love/hate relationship with them having surfed SA.
Great Whites have been protected for a long time now and there are plenty around, if we take every other fish out of the ocean these beasts will get very hungry.

Or they'll die.
There are not enough surfers to feed them. They eat a lot and most surfers have little body meat. All skin and bone.  Grin

They've been a top dog predator for a long time before humans were killing them. They do fall victim to bigger sharks too.

As for their food, I spend a lot of time on the water and catch very good fish so the food source is still rather healthy. We get whites off Qld too. Mostly around the whales migration. I've seen a couple over the years.

They are eating machines and they don't discriminate, a surfer is just a snack, albeit a boney one.
The fish might be where you are but they are depleting around here.

You're a free diver -
have you ever been that close to a large white pointer?

That shark had just finished feasting on a whale carcass, it was as full as a goog.

I'd hate a shark to think I'm just a menu item at the AllahSnackbar.

Not a big one. I've had a small one buzz me after I strung up a mulloway once. I suspect the diver in that photo is in the background, behind the shark. Distances can be a bit deceptive underwater.

Shark numbers decline by up to 90% in five decades off Queensland coast.

That tells you humans are two legged sharks.

OK - I was a keen free diver when I was about 14 years old.
I remember little sharks & also stingrays -
they were scared of me.
the biggest thing I ever saw was a manta ray -
that was enormous - bigger than a boat - but harmless.

No wonder they were supposed to be such ferocious beasts. Can you imagine having arms too short to scratch your balls? A living hell.

Christ almighty - you wouldn't want to meet up with a T-Rex -

what a gigantic, fearsome beast.

That thing could take on any animal alive today & have it for breakfast.

If we had one we could burly up the water to attract some Great Whites and toss it in the ocean to see how it goes.
