This:

Is both telling of Arctic warming and a bit scary when you consider the consequences.

Just posted the above chart of multiyear ice loss to Twitter. Maybe some people thinking liars and snake oil sellers like Dubyne, Ice Age Farmer etc will see they are nothing but frauds looking to make money by donations from the duped and eyeballs watching their idiotic videos giving them ad revenue.

Anything from Principia-Scientifica can be dismissed as pseudoscience. Dubyne has quoted their rubbish “science” as fact before now.

Insurance companies are in the forefront of acting to protect themselves from AGW. They have to be, more extreme weather, more floods (from heavy rain or sea level rise) loss of crops etc.

Yeah. Allianz MAY bow out. Others will still sell the insurance. Until or when they keep making losses which shows their premiums are too low. Then they will either raise their premiums or get out of the business.

If more insurers get out, it will leave it to the few. And they will raise premiums simply because they can. It just adds more black ink to the bottom line.

Oh yeah. That 2º limit again. Invented by an economist. Grin Grin Grin

Greenland is part of the Arctic. The melt is still below the 1981 - 2010 median.

So you are saying that from the thickness in metres you can accurately deduce the number of years?

I would like to see that algorithm. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

O dear o dear
lee caught out lying yet again

the picture can be found here
https://www.dmi.dk/en/groenland/maalinger/greenland-ice-sheet-surface-mass-budge...
And it doesn't represent melting, it represents the mass balance for the calendar day 11th May 2018 and compares it to the mass balance of the same calendar day 1981-2010.

A completely meaningless graphic which lee has misrepresented (as usual)

Shame on you lee  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Insurance companies have been factoring the risk of AGW for a long time now, this is just the start of stronger action by insurers.

More about the disappearing multiyear Arctic ice:

Quote:
The iceberg nursery near Alaska is failing as warming temperatures have made it harder to churn out sea ice year after year, the federal government warned Wednesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a new analysis with maps detailing how older Arctic sea ice is being lost north of Alaska and the likelihood that it will never be replaced.

"The Beaufort Gyre north of Alaska has traditionally acted as a nursery for growing sea ice, but warmer conditions have impeded the gyre's ability to preserve older ice since the start of the 21st century," according to the agency.

More open water may have driven the melting of much of the multi-year ice through the "vigorous transport of sea ice during the 2017–2018 winter." The ice leaves the Arctic nursery by way of the Fram Strait east of Greenland.

NOAA says the older sea ice was more impervious to melting than first-year ice, which is filling up much of the Arctic. But even that's dwindling.

"Arctic sea ice minimum extent in 2017 was the eighth-smallest on record — well below the 1981-2010 average, but not a record setter," the analysis said.

Multi-year ice has been cut in half over the last three decades. In 1984, the ice pack made up 61 percent of the Arctic sea ice. "In the ninth week of 2018, multiyear ice comprised 34 percent of the sea ice pack," NOAA said.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center recently reported that only 2 percent of the Arctic's sea ice was at least five years old, the analysis pointed out.

An El Nino later this year is already 30% likely:

Quote:
La Niña conditions no longer existed in the tropical Pacific Ocean, with cool-neutral conditions prevailing in April, said NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) in its May 10 monthly advisory. The weak La Niña event that began in August 2017 is now over, something the Australian Bureau of Meteorology concurred with in their April 13 biweekly report. The bureau uses a more stringent threshold than NOAA for defining La Niña: sea-surface temperatures in the Niño3.4 region of the tropical Pacific must be at least 0.8°C below average, vs. the NOAA benchmark of 0.5°C below average.

Over the past week, sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the benchmark Niño 3.4 region (in the equatorial Pacific) were about 0.4°C below average, which is outside the 0.5°C to 1.0°C-below-average range that is required to qualify as a weak La Niña. Odds for an El Niño event to form are predicted to increase as we head towards the fall and winter of 2018, with the latest CPC/IRI Probabilistic ENSO Forecast calling for a 38% chance of an El Niño event during the August-September-October peak of the Northern Hemisphere hurricane season. El Niño events typically reduce Atlantic hurricane activity, due to an increase in wind shear over the tropical Atlantic.
